Has anyone here ever attempted to get a Nintendo/Sega/PSX controller working with their PC?
I own some old consoles which are out in the garage, and I would like to utilize the controllers on my PC... it would give an emulator a lot more feel http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
I know this will require some re-wiring, which I am somewhat comfortable with that..
It will involve also the writing of a driver or interface so the RS-232 port can communicate with said controller.
I am greatly interested to know if anyone has done something like this before so that I may get some pointers.
Any help is appreciated.
I'm afraid I cannot be of much help, but back in my AOL days I did run across some schematics for an adaptor that allowed you to use a PSX controller on the PC, through the parallel port. The driver was included in the package and everything. At least such a device can be created...
Edit
Try this: http://www.ziplabel.com/dpadpro/index.html or this : http://www.arcadecontrols.speedhost.com/arcade.htm . Good luck sir.

Thank you for your reply, I was able to gather some information from the sources you provided.
I am interested to know if anyone else has any input?
Please post if you have any luck. I'm thinking NFS3 might be better on my PC with that ol' PSX wheel I have tucked away... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Check this site out:
http://www.jandaman.com/psxusb.shtml
It's a PSX controller-to-USB adapter with drivers for $15. They also have the same adapter but with 2 PSX inputs on it so you can hook up 2 controllers on one USB port, but they are sold out of them right now.

That looks pretty well done..
I would love to know how to build something like that..
Anyone have any experience, or further tutorial material?

why not just buy a gravis for $15? it's got all the buttons the psx controller has.

Well.. for two reasons..
1) It would be fun to learn how to do it..
2) Nothing compares to the classic controller.. i'd rather use a vintage 1980's nintendo controller than a gravis hehe.. for nesticle at least http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif)

lol an original Nintendo controller would make me get arthritis within a year. That thing is sooooo incredibly small.

I'm guessing that even though the plug is just a serial, that there's no way to just make a driver to use a Sega Genesis controller? Analog vs. digital or somthing? I've got several, plus one of those great big joystick pads which is just like using an arcade machine for one.
