I was wondering if you guys knew if this Super Orb by Thermaltake would fit onto an Abit KT7E motherboard?

info on MoBo http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rlid=36005

info on Super Orb Socket A http://www.thermaltake.com/

thanks
marshall

I dont know about the fit, but I do know a friend and I both have Superorbs (He; A7M266 1.3GTbird, Me; A7V133 1GTbird), and we are both looking for new coolers. We agree that the Superorbs are wayyy too noisy for the cooling they offer.

A great many of the guys are leaving the orbs off these days, they do not cool nearly as good, and have recieved the lowest ratings by the majority of the professional reviewers. The general consensus is, 'they only look cool'.

The cpu socket orbs are responsible for more chipped cores on the cpus than just about any other sink. They are diffucult to keep flat and level on the cpu while installing or removing, especially once the mainboard is mounted.

During the install or removal of any heat sink, if the core has pressure applied to its edges, it can chip the fragile core. It dosn't take much...a small chip will most times kill it. Some have chipped the core, and survived, but the cpu died a month or so later anyway. There are over 7000,000 transistors in the core..right up to the very edge.

Just be very carefull of any clip on type of sink...especially the Thermaltake Orbs.

One other thing concerning the clip on heat sinks. Many are so strong, that they will shear off the tabs from the socket.

If you want a kicka$$ cooler that fits the Abit boards, and don't mind an $80 price tag, get the Swiftech MC462-A (http://www.cluboverclocker.com/reviews/heatsinks/swiftech_mc462-a/index.htm) , it bolts to the motherboard, not the socket and is rated one of, if not THE best air cooler on the market.

If I wasn't building a liquid system, this is the cooler that I would get.

I believe the layout of the KT7-E is exactly the same as the KT7's. It doesn't fit in the KT7, so it doesn't fit on the KT7-E either.

Hey Andy, if you want a new cooler, check out www.oc-shop.nl (http://www.oc-shop.nl) . They sell the GlobalWIN FOP-32 for FL 45 and the WBK-38 for FL 79. Shipping is a bit high, FL 25, but if both you and your friend buy a cooler you can split it. Or you can go to Dordrecht to pick it up http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif . My brother bought from them twice.
