Greetings All! I hope this is the right forum. I have a microsoft intellimouse explorer USB. I cam home from work and it no longer works. During boot, the light flickers a couple times, but then it states no mouse detected. I have done everything I can think of to recover- reload software after uninstalling. Removing from device manager... so on and so forth. I use both the usb port and ps2 with adapter- neither work with it. I plug in a cheap mouse and everything is fine. So- I have determined that it is the mouse. I do not have the box, but do have reciept of purchase. I have the serial numbers on mouse. I have been looking for the past hour for a FREE phone number to microsoft to ask about exchange-- go figure... cant find one!!! Any help or ideas appreciated. Seems the tweaks, repairs and replacements never stop... anyway- Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know of a customer support # for microsoft without a fee? I seem to remember that on the back of the box, there was a number. If anyone has a micro product, could you see if there is a number on the back of the box.
Thanks,
Mortis

If Microsoft HAD a general purpose 800 support number, everyone in the free world would be calling it. Just ask the folks like Word Perfect who tried that for a while.
Anyway, if you got the mouse from a local store, can't you just exchange it with them?
And just to be sure, you might try the mouse on another computer... JUST to be sure. I have seen cases where it would work on another system. Just a suggestion.
If you don't want to call Microsoft, you can post messages to their support newsgroup. I think there's a hardware newsgroup... they might be able to help.

Thanks Jim... I received the mouse last Christmas as a gift. I have the receipt, but no box, the store where it was purchased from has a 1 year warranty. I called them, and they said they could send it back to the manufacturer and then up to them for repair or replacement. They sounded "bothered" (customer service http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif ) by my inquiries and questions. So, I thought I would try a direct communication to bypass delays and the "middleman". Guess I will go store route. Yes, I am sure it is the mouse. I took it to work and connected there, same results. Frown. Thanks. Going to store today to see what they can do.

Greetings. I posted this problem with a well written complaint on microsofts user board and was sent an email from a mod with a free micro product exchange and replacement number. I just called this morning, the call took a total of 4 minutes and a new mouse is being shipped (and already received confirm number through email). I am impressed, although it was almost impossible to get the number. I thought I would pass the number along as it does not seem to be readily available. Good luck to those who have similar problems. The number is :
1-800-360-7561.
Thanks,
Mortis
