about spyware

upon downloading audiogalaxy i have learned that this has something about spyware. i would like to know how to protect my system against this sort of thing from happening again. i don't want anyone peeking around my computer if i can help it.

i downloaded ad-aware and spychecker. when i put a name of a download in spychecker and it has no matches. does this mean that it is not spyware? i have audiogalaxy installed on my system, in order to remove the spyware do i have to uninstall audiogalaxy? what does ad=adware do?

Another good spyware removal program is OptOut from Gibson Research (http://grc.com/optout.htm) .

I used to remove cr@p like Comet Cursor and Offer Companion (it's a cr@ppy addition to Gator, which is a great program).

I've had Gator, but for some reason i didn't like it too much..

Firewalls in general will not stop spyware from comining in, but ZoneAlarm will sure stop them from phoning home! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif (That's another way of letting you know you have a problem.)
