Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : New SETI CMD line client not working with SETIHide?

I downloaded the new seti cammand line client with the security fix. I deleted my seti folder, then i installed the cmd line client first. Then I move my setihide .exe file into the fold and double clicked it to install, install was successful but seti hide will not open up the cmd line client. Have they not released a version of setihide that is compatible with v3.08 of the seti cmd line?

I checked the Setihide (http://www.setihide.de) site, and their doesn't seem to be any updates.. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/q/bawling.gif

Did you start the command-line client first, to log in and download the first wu? Then close the window and start sethide?
You know, I looked at that site and I think that 3.08 is the screensaver version. Oh, I see it now. Let us know how it works.

I've posted on the SetiHide forum and awaiting response.:t
Looks as if the cure is worse than the disease!
Reports of slower results: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/bb/bb3/index.cgi
I made a post on Cruncher's Corner and also e-mailed the guy who found the problem with the client that caused the change.
I'm just going to leave things as they are until this gets solved.:)

Do everything from scratch new client and setihide. Start with an empty folder and add stuff just like first time. :D
Well, that didn't work! :(

well i got it to work..
You have to enter the client name yourself..
just enter this in your setting under client name.
setiathome-3.08.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe
i posted a pic.

Well it works, but only if you have the cammand line client shown. If you click the X button is will stop the crunching. It use to be able to hide the cammand client so you won't see it.:(

Clicking "X" has always closed it for me. Change your setting to invisible and minimize it. Don't forget to put setihide in your Startup list.
Got it running on Win98, now to see if it's faster or slower.
Thanks Scavenger! :t

I'd advise anyone thinking of changing over to backup the old client. I see they have removed 3.03 from the download list.
I'm just running the new one for a bit to see if there is a performance hit.
Here's a ftp site for new client:
ftp://alien.ssl.berkeley.edu/pub/setiathome-3.08.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe

I tried that, it didn't start the client. The only way I can get it to start is if I go to the cache tab, right click on the cached WU, and select "start seti client visible in the selected cache" See pic.

don't know..
Here is what i did.
Made a new Dir and place the cli and hide in that dir.
started the cli, choose #2 entered email address, let it run through and hit ctrl-c to exit the screen.. started setihide went to settings and entered:
setiathome-3.08.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe
under client name. then went to the main screen and started the client hidden where it says inactive.. and thats all i did.. can't understand why it won't work for you??.
keep trying and let us know if you get it running...

on a side note,, I have completed a couple units already, and it does seem slower than the other cli..

I'm running 3.03 or 3.04. Should I switch? is it faster or optimized for AMD at all?
RampageIII

I'm sticking with 3.03, there seems to be a performance hit (10% slower) with the new 3.08. :(

Hmmm thanks Rampage!
I'll stick with 3.03 for now... performance hits = bad news.
I'd LIKE to get another 7 P4s out and churning, but it looks like I'll settle with an upgrade to XP 2400+ for the main comp, and a couple more XP1800+s or 2100+s overclocked accordingly. That should help out immensely :D

In case anyone wants the old client (setiathome-3.03.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe) you can download it from THIS (ftp://alien.ssl.berkeley.edu/pub/) ftp site.

I'm going to be hosting the 3.03 command line client off my website. It has a decent connection.
http://www.one87.net/~teamx/files/setiathome-3.03.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe
Now everyone that wants to get the good client can get it here as well!
Perhaps we can chop and paste this all to a different post and sticky it? Just an idea :)

Hi, I hgave been running the newer version of the CLI for a few days now adn it is definately slower (about an extra ten minutes per WU even though my athlon is now running at 1.53GHz instead of 1.4GHz). SO I was wondering do I have to do a fesh install of setihide if I go back to the older versin, or can I just replace the file and change the settings in SETIhide?

OK, scrpa that, I just tried it and it seems to work fine straight off (by the way, I never seemed to have anyproblems with the 3.08 version either wheen I tried to use that, but that was starting from fresh, so who knows what was going on).

It seemed that setihide had some trouble once in awhile recognizing the newer client.
However, I have talked to some others who have renamed the client, i.e. seti.exe, and never missed a beat.
So really don't know what the exact problem was but most people have been able to sort it out.:)
I'm still running the old client, too. If there had been an appreciable increase in performance I would have made the change, but that wasn't the case this time.

Thought I'd bump this up in case someone else has probs.:)
BTW kid, it's usually nice to tell what you did to fix a problem in the end. ;)
I read on the setihide forum that there have been problems with file transfers in XP and 3.08. So, it's still an issue.

I son't know what fixed it. it just worked one day.
Some things you can try is after you install the cmd line and seti hide. Run the cmd line client for a couple seconds when you see it saying "deleting temp files" or somthinglike that. Then close it and start seti hide again.
