Me and a friend are going to start a buisness. We are going to make our website and have good HTML knoledge and limited DHTML skills. We were wondering which of these languages would be best to help us on our pending adventure:
PHP
SQL
Java
DHTML
HTML
XML
CGI
Perl
ASP
----
We have plenty of time, so the best suggestion would be perferable, not just the least time counsuming.
Some good web hosting reviews would also be nice. We were looking at FatCow (http://www.fatcow.com). But i heard theplanet was good.

what are going to use your website for? It is no use saying just use HTML for a sales site...need more info.
Having said that most of the languages you have put down there are tot:
PHP - The common standard at the moment
SQL - Designed for databases...not really websites
Java - This would be applets - stay away for compatibility
DHTML - dynamic HTML, not that advanced a programing language
HTML - Well, HTML is the binding for all sites. You have to use some of this.
XML - An extension to HTML, designed to replace HTML sometime in the future
CGI - Hmm, I thought CGI was the stuff used to run...
Perl - which is old, very old.
ASP - MS version. I like it but you need IIS / MS Server which are pricey and can be un-reliable I here.

Although I do not know much about them I would go with PHP and MySQL for now. The price you will have to pay for these will be minimal campared to Microsofts stuff.
CGI - is too clucky now days I only use it if I have a custom app I need to run.

The website is ironicly for computers. I would like the interface to be some what easy to use. I would like an interfacve like Infantry Evolution (http://www.infantryevolution.com). Hosting reviews would also be nice.

For the sanity of surfers everywhere (or just mine), stay away from Flash. Please.

First rule of business, is:
TIME IS MONEY
Don't trust me, try it. Take your time, and make business.
What does it do? And, where is the money? Else, NOT business.
Me and a friend are going to start a buisness...
Oops. 3 or 4 rules:
1. Friends and business don't mix.
2. Well, maybe they do, but at expense of friend(s).
3. Do it, ...and forget 1&2.
4. ironically (spelled)
How much $ has your business made? How much will it make?

after spending 4 years at borg.com and watching it grow to the biggest local isp in central new york only to have it purchased out from under me with lies and treason i offer this advice.
1) Time is Money. Design it right from day 1 and you wont be going back to fix stuff later.
2) Don't let any deadbeats ruin your system. If they don't pay kill the account.
3) Find loyal people. Loyalty can be trained, beware those who are "in it for the money" or "just killing time".
4) Don't sell out. ;)
