I have a Quantum Fireball CR 1.6GB with my system and program files PLUS a Quantum Fireball KA 9.1GB with movies, game and mp3s
They're sharing the same IDE port(the other IDE port is connected to CD ROMs). The KA has a habit of spinning down when it hasn't been used for a while. Is running two separate HDDs this way faster than running one partitioned drive? It seems to slow my system's overall performance.

Most people have better luck putting their system drive on one IDE cable then the additional drive on the second IDE cable. You simply have to make the proper master/slave settings based on what else you have on each cable. Regarding partitioning vs not for faster results that really depends on type of HD, how many partitions, etc. I suspect that you will get many opinions here on the forum. I'm in the one large partition camp. This has many benefits, not the least of which is..."where did I put that down-loaded program?"

(Yeah, I thought about putting the two drives on separate IDE cables but I don't want to put a HDD and a CD ROM together!)

If I were to partition a HDD, it would only contain two partitions - I like to keep system separate from multimedia.

Thanks, AL.
