Not wanting to upset anyone here, but is there any programs i can use to block the ads here at sysopt as theyre slowing the site down to a crawl for me and sadly im spending less time around as a result of it.
Tnx ppl

If you figure it out, let me know. This site always crawls for me

The ad blocker I use doesn't seem to make any difference here. I have noticed a slowdown in the past month though.

Isn't the main culprit the Flash advert? I doubt that any ad blocker would work to remove that - you couldn't really differentiaite between an advert and a menu for instance.

I've been having some success with AdShield (http://www.adshield.org/). The sooner I get broadband the better :(

Nah it wont get rid of the flash. Steve R informed us its a server issue rather than anything and it was being worked on, touch wood, ATM its zipping along nicely :)

AdShield can remove Flash ads, but only on a per-advert basis - ie. you have to tell it to block individual ads as you come across them.

All seems well now!:t
Must have been the server as had been suspected!:D

Tis definetly Not the ads causing slowdown!
I don't see any ads here (because I block the adserver cookies, amongst other things), but at times the site is painfully slow for me too!
Tis more likely the server being dragged down by all those animated avatars! :p

I'm rarely troubled by ads on any site and I don't use any ad blocking software. I just have a gnarley hosts file. The one SpyBot will install for you is good, or you can Google it.

Admittedly the onyl ads that really get on my nerves are pop ups and Phoenix kills those anyhows

if you only accept images that come from the originating server in mozilla it seems to kill a good number of the flash ads ( if there not already in cache )
seems some of the ads originate at sysopt itself though
im on dsl and i had noticed a slowdown last 2 days as well
