This person is using sysopt as an email addy gathering tool to send out spam. They forgot to use BCC and every person the mail was sent to is a member here. I normally dont care about spammers but I consider this a somewhat sacred place on the net. Anyway, heres the info:

golfcart, my email account here at sysopt is kind of my multi-purpose account so spam is pretty common. I'd have never noticed anything like that.

Nice work though!! I give you some mad-props for your heads up work! Hopefully the higher ups can shut em down.

I got that spam from the matrix.com too

I'll put my two cents in here just because...

I've gotten maybe two emails from these folks as well. I don't know if I'd necissarily call it spam, they weren't trying to sell me anything...looked like they are just trying to get members for their forums. Of course when I didn't respond to the first email by registering on their board, that should've been their answer...I'm not interested.

Ok sure, any unsolicited email is spam, but I'd don't think these guys are pure evil like true spammers. They're just trying to get more members and using a not so intelligent method. I'd suggest our "powers that be" tell their "powers that be" to just knock it off.

OuTpaTienT,
I totally agree with you. I don't want to see this guy burned at the stake or anything. I just don't want to see this site abused in that way. I like it here. Also, I just recieved word that our "powers that be" told their "powers that be" to tell him/her to knock it off. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Hopefully that settles it.

I got two e-mails from these people too, but I didnt quite view it as spam, more like an unwanted invitation.

If you don't want to recieve e-mails from people like this then what you should do is remove your e-mail address from your profile. Friends of mine have had to change their e-mail address due to getting so much junk in it and they only really gave it out on forum sites. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

I doubt spam will ever get that serious off peoples sysopt profile, this is the 1 and only 'Spam' I've received due to my sysopt profile. Just use outlook for mail and put them on the 'block senders' list. Howd you know they got it off sysopt?

club_med
05-24-2001, 08:19 AM
Well I agree with Hellmund, this is the only 'spam-like' e-mail I have received.

I know they got it through Sysopt because I only made this alias for Sysopt (I don't use it anywhere else).

I don't think that any one of us should have to remove our email adress from our profile to avoid this type of thing. They obviously know that what they are doing is frowned upon. If they didn't know any better they would have just made a "check out my site" post. They also would have used an email adress from their domain and not a hotmail account. I don't see how people can get upset when somebody comes here and makes their very first post an advertisement for their site, and at the same time say it is ok for them to dig through our profiles to send unsolicited mail. What they should have done is registered here, participated a little bit, made some friends, and then invite people to check out the site. Many people have done this before and I see nothing wrong with it. I know that their intent was not harmful, but I also believe that they know right from wrong and coming to sysopt for the sole purpose of gathering email adresses is wrong no matter what the intent is. I don't want to make a big deal of this, and I am not one to make a big deal of spam. It is something you learn to live with on the internet. I only brought it up because it was blatantly obvious that they were getting the adresses from here. Thats about all I have to say, so have a nice day http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

No, you don't have email at ***@sysopt.com What they are talking about is email being sent to the email you have provided in your profile.

Let me start off by saying that I Apologize for sending the unsolicited email to all that have received it. I feel that I have been a member of this site for a while now, but never registered. I have now registered and I do intend to participate if I will be entitled to do so without being flamed. I admit that I was wrong for what I did and deeply apologize for this.

My intentions were only to gain members at The Matrix Society on account of the trauma that I have been through with a past experience. I was once the admin of a website similar to the matrix society and during my recent divorce, it was taken from me by my ex-wife and given to her online cyber boyfriend. Yes, trauma set in and I was aimed at rebuilding my life aswell as a new website. I was trying to basically exceed their attempt at stealing what was rightfully mine by boosting my member count. I went about this the wrong way. All I ask is that the members of this board please forgive me for the spam mail. Those of you who received the mail more than once, I am twice as sorry.

Note to the Adiministrator: You have a wonderful board here and I enjoy reading the post and this place has helped me on many occasions. Usually I just do a search on the topics to find what I am looking for, but now I will participate at helping those who need it.

Thanks guys,
Revenant

Your post will do a lot to ease the thoughts people were having. I wouldn't have known it was you if you hadn't said anything. But because of your actions, for what it's worth, you have a clean slate with me.

I appreciate your coming forward, and your admission regarding the unsolicited emails.

We care about our members and we uphold the standards of this site; indeed this is why we were quick to act upon golfcart's notice.

As long as there is no further inappropriateness or harrassment via any method (and I consider unsolicited emails a form of harrassment, especially when harvested from our members' profiles), and, as with any other member, the site rules and policies are adhered to, you are welcome here.

Ok to be honest I have no real idea what the (delete expletive) has gone

on, some of you know me and some of you dont. I know rev and am his

pal, for his sake i suggest you all just shut the(delete expletive) up.
I mean in all honesty do you really give a (delete expletive) about a (delete

expletive) forum.
Im not full of idol threats, i run one of the biggest underground sites on the

web and know a lot of people that will(delete expletive) you up on the net

at any opportunity. We know how to get into your computer no matter how

many firewalls you have, we will get in and we will do some serious

damage.
This goes for everyone involved in this whether it be moderators here, the

other people who i do not know at all and will not judge at this point, but

its hardly a good idea or use of your time to sit here and have a ***** fight

about whatever went on. If passwords are being given out who (delete

expletive) cares its not like its hard to get into the private forums anyway. If

any of us wanted i we could merely take the cookie and copy it and do

some editing *hint*. But heres the deal just shut the (delete expletive) up and get on

with your (delete expletive), who cares what goes on on another web site, all the

underground sites and fxp sites are in the middle of joining forces through

my site to bring the internet together basically it is the real underground

sites that run teh web and keep it useful we are joining forces to expand

the scene and we will not tolerate this kind of petty (delete expletive).
thats all i can be bothered typing now cause its(delete expletive) cold in

here and i cant type properly cause of it.

LOL, Wart! I never got an e-mail from him either. But he problably read the topic I once posted about that spammer. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

What they should have done is registered here, participated a little bit, made some friends, and then invite people to check out the site.

That's exactly how we get members at Mad Gamers (http://www.mad-gamers.org.uk/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi) . I think it's the only way to get a forum going. I should really help a bit more to get members there. Don't be surprised if you get an email from me tomorrow. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

The "THREAT" message that I posted(copy & Pasted)was only notice to our visitors and members here that the site in question has possible dangers lurking within.

If those "dangers" are not Real and the post's inclinations are all Hot Air, then my warning only served purpose to alert those whose parents have warned them about foul language sites or for those who wish not to be associated with such.

Let the records show clearly, I've made NO judgement in this matter...

P.S.
the threat did remind me of the redneck and the Punk

"Punk, you're FOS if you think they quit making them after you stole yours"

Just to get an opinion from you guys. Do you lot think I should set the censor option ON or leave the board running as it is. In my opinion I see nothing on the board that I haven't already heard or could hear in a pg-13 rated movie. About the threats and such, the guy making those threats is blowing hot air towards another member of the site in which they have had problems since day 1. Nothing but Hot Air in that post.
