In cleaning out my “junk drawer”, I have ended up with about 6 POUNDS of old Simms. 30 and 72 pin, 1meg to 16meg. Has to be over 300 individual sticks. Other than novelty, are these WORTH anything anymore?

I paid more than I wanted to for some last year. People with older machines who want to run W98 benefit from filling the slots to reach 64MB minimum. randy48 05-22-2001, 11:58 AM Check the current "going for" prices on Ebay...not long ago, they were worth more then Dimms! Mitchell 05-22-2001, 02:45 PM The eBay is a great idea! I never thought they would be worth anything. I have noticed that quite a few of these are EDO. Go figure... I have taken up building SimmArt with the 1 to 4 meg ones. I always wanted a Lincoln Log kit when I was a kid, so maybe I'll use these instead. any suggestions? hehehee OpnPodBayHal 05-22-2001, 06:33 PM Great for old 486/Pentium Linux box. Why destroy stuff just because its out-of-date? Give it to a kid with an old PC or a school or library. SIMMs are still worth $1/meg IF THEY WORK. If your not sure please don't sell them on ebay...noone wants to buy DOA...my 2 cents. alondra 05-22-2001, 11:41 PM I say it again 1,2, and 4 meg SIMMs are worthless,, 4 slots, divide into 32 megs min. you need in the oldest computer, need at least 8 meg x 4. those smaller ones are good for lincoln logs http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif alondra 05-22-2001, 11:41 PM sorry about that double post http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif [This message has been edited by alondra (edited 05-22-2001).] DanU 05-23-2001, 12:13 AM I just bought a couple of 16MB EDO SIMMS for about $8 each on Ebay. The 8MB EDO SIMMS seem to go for about $1~$2 each. Smaller simms are pretty much landfill material. alondra 05-23-2001, 12:41 AM usually the boards only have 4 slots, so you need 4-16s to get there. save 30 pin in pairs, would keep any from 8 up, smaller junk. have 2 ATs here running SIMMs Mitchell 05-25-2001, 02:42 PM Update: I have just finished the final touches on my first SimmArt. Hmmm, maybe if I get several hundred of these, I can package them 20 at a time and sell them in Toys-R-Us to compete against Legos... uhmm... maybe not... Thanks Alondra, I agree. The <=4 meg sticks are going to the recycler... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif surrealchereal 05-26-2001, 07:54 AM Hey Mitch, I have a mobile made from some I have, the possibilites are endless! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif (btw how was Vegas? and when is LA again?) bhess 05-26-2001, 09:07 PM Does antbody know if you can buy "splitters" to add more ram than the 4 slots usually givin? I swear I remember them a long time ago. I searched for the but don't know the exact name. charmler 05-26-2001, 10:00 PM I see ads for used ram in the back of some computer mags. I seem to remember memory daughter cards but I think they were for dipp ram. There are cards to use 30 pin ram in 72 pin slots or the opposite, not sure which. Savant 05-26-2001, 10:05 PM bhess the only thing like that I've seen are adapters for putting 4 30pin SIMMs into a 72pin slot, never used them so I don'r know how reliable they were SysOpt.com
