I would just like to here peoples stories of what their weirdest AOL-attributed computer problem was... My personal favorite is the time a guys video card stopped working in anything but 16 colors after AOL 5.0 was installed. (?!?!?!?!?) So, lets hear it!

I'd just like to say that in the 5 plus years I have been using AOL, I have never seen any weirdness attributed to it.

I think my weirdest was how the hell did i stay with that service for 2 years!?!?! Overall aol was the one who introduced me to punters, mp3's and warez. Also aol introduced me to stalkers online and backstreet boys chat rooms along with the lesbian pic trading rooms. Man now that was back in the day

Had a customer who bought a new printer because he couldn't print from the internet...it still wouldn't print. Once I unistalled AOL6.0 (he still had 5.0), it worked fine....go figure..

Aside from intermittent connection problems, the only problem is AOL often crashes at exit when it hits its "Graphics" cache limit and tries to automatically update. To prevent that, I just set the limit real high & manually force it to clean up the cache at times.

Besides having to reformat because AOL gave me some hidden files that for some reason i couldn't get rid of nothing out of the ordinary

It gave me an inspiration for a research paper regarding spam.

I like the free AOL DVD cases that Sears lets me take (as many as I want) each time I go in.

I've been using AOL since v4.0 with no real problems, except that once in a while it can't find my TCP/IP connection, and I have to show it where it is again.

Right now I'm using AOL 6.0beta, testing for the newest version.

(I like AOL Plus, I can watch the old "unbutchered" Looney Tunes cartoons with the streaming video feature)

AOL ? Who the "L" are they ? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

They still have no service here and I don't personally know anyone who use them, not by choice : because they can't.

All I ever heard about AOL was on forum discussions.

My Dad was the first member of our family who became a regular internet user, first with Compuserve back in the days when you got charged extra for every little thing, including time. He switched to AOL back in '93 for its ease of use, then bought us a modem for our first computer (386/16) and we've been using AOL ever since.

I think I've used every version of AOL since 2.0 or something, with four different computers, five OS's, three browsers, modem speeds from 14.4 to 56K and now on cable (BYOA for $9.95/mon). I can honestly say I have had no complaints about AOL, except for the period following the instroduction of unlimited access, which we all take for granted now. My family has grown up on AOL, along with many family members and other "buddies".

I never could understand why there are so many people who seem to have problems, except that there always seem to be people who have problems with everything!

My two cents. Jn

I don't usually reply to any post that has the word "poll" in it but here goes...

I think it wierd that so many people have a problem with AOL:

I am very grateful to AOL for the first 2-1/2 years of my computing experience:

1. AOL's constant disconnects and slow downloads caused me to upgrade my modems on a regular basis -thinking they were the
problem.

2. AOL's buggy and bloated software slowed my computer down to the extent that frequent hardware upgrades were necessary to
the point that I actually wound up being A+ certified.

3. AOL's software needed to be reinstalled about 5-times more often than Windows 95/98 so I became quite adept at adding and
removing software and understanding how overwriten DLLs can totally fsck a system.

4. AOL's software and Windows 9x made such a winning combination that I sought out my first Box-o-Linux off of a store shelf; I
remember thinking as I pondered the claims on the box, "Sure, there's got to be something better to run a computer."

5. AOL's frustration helped me develope the patients necessary to deal with learning Linux, dealing with my boss, pressures on the
job, and life in general. I could always comfort myself up by saying, "Cheer-up self! This situation could not possibly be as frustrating
as a bad day on AOL."

6. AOL gave me a keen awareness of the need for caution online and virus protection.

7. AOL taught me the meaning of SPAM, TOS, POP-UPS, COOKIES, and half a dozen other nifty Internet vocabularies.

And the list goes on and on.

lol.. so true... the wierd thing is that after a problem help sends me that survey, and in the portion where you get to write whats bad with aol i cant never come up with any words and then after i send it i say to myself "i could have said..... oh man.. darn, guess i will have to wait for tomorrows problem"
