In Windows 98/ME there's something called "winpopup" that allows computers that are in the same network to exchange instant messages.

Now I have Windows2000 and there's no winpopup. I did a search for a "messenger" or "alerter" service, but found no-one that can be actually ran on my machine.

When my brother uses winpopup on his machine to send me a message, I get the message in an "alert box" but I can not reply!

Does anyone know how can I reply? Or maybe someone knows a BETTER program (freeware if possible) than winpopup?

Thanks all,

M.

Update:

I found a third party software. Looks cool for LAN messages. It is a freeware, name is "RealPopup" and you can get it from www.tucows.com (http://www.tucows.com) if you are interested...

I am nevertheless curious to know if there's something like that integrated in Win2k

There is. Open a Command window, (Start=>Run=>type "cmd") and in the command window type =>Net Send username | computer name and a message.

It will look like this =>Net Send MASTOURA Hi there.

That's the nuts-and-bolts way. The easy way is to go to:

and download Ah-goeie, which does the same thing in a neat GUI.
