or SPD, the setting you can find in the BIOS.

If I have, say 2 SDRAM sticks of 128 Mb ; 1 PC-133 and the other PC-100 and speed is set "BY SPD" in BIOS, would the speed of both DIMMS be 100 MHz to be compatible with both or would they operate each at their rated speed ?

The memory bus cannot operate at different speeds for different modules at the same time. SPD should not really effect the bus speed, only the cas/ras settings, and will also not run one module at cas 2 and one at cas 3, it will run at the lowest speed present (cas3). You would have to run your memory bus at 100 Mhz to be compatible with both, but you could always check to see if your PC100 memory will run at 133 Mhz....
