This may seem like an unsual question, but a friend of mine and i have had this weird urge to play the orginal diablo. actaully hellfire... but the problem is that we want to play multiplayer (duh) - so we've installed all the necessary patches to get the multiplayer options avaliable, but how do you play diablo or hellfire over a cable modem???
Just play it on Bnet.
Don't you have a dial up modem on your computer?
Diablo?? That is an old game. I can't even get it anywhere in my country anymore. I can say that the game will be very precious within a few more years. People will ask for a high price to buy it from you. Collector's item!!

Nope... No dial-up modem, I will NEVER go back to that since I got my cable modem. As far as a collectors item, I dont know about that, you can still buy that battle chest thing here in the states for like $40 - $50. I haven't however seen Hellfire on store shelves in a long time.
Hellfire is not an official add-on. Blizzard never recognizes that add-on as it's created by another company.

You can only play a LAN game of Diablo with IPX/SPX. You would need to dial from your PC to your friends PC with IPX installed and configured on both PC's.
Battle.Net parts of Diablo work with TCP/IP only because it is what the Internet uses and they had to use TCP/IP to connect.
I run with TCP/IP and IPX/SPX on all of my PC's. I can play old games and new on a LAN or the Internet (if supported).
