So is it just me or is the price of ram just going to the ground. Whats the highest price anyone here has payed for Ram?

I remember a time when a stick of 128 was going for $300.00 Canadian. And now even us Canadians can pick it up for less than $50.00, and i see at Price watch a stick is WHAT? $18.00 bucks whcich is close to $50.00 bucks Canadian.....lol.

Not really but pretty close to it........lol. So anyway yeah what was the highest anyone ever payed for Ram?

And also remember

(can anyone just give me some and call it Charity......lol)

I don't remember what I may have paid for my most expensive ram, but I do remember the most money I got for ram that I sold.

I'll conveniently leave the details out of this story, but let's just say I acquired 8 sticks of 72-pin ram with 4MB on each stick. This was during the time of Windoze 3.1 & Windoze for Workgroups 3.11, fastest CPU around was a 486DX2-66. Most people couldn't afford more than 8MB of RAM in their machine. A single 4MB stick was selling retail for $100, so I was stoked, I had about $800 worth of ram. But in order to avoid any haggling, and to move the process along quickly (& just because I'm a nice guy http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif) I put the ram up for sale at ½ price...$50 each. They were all snatched up within 2 days of posting the offer on a small, local bulletin board system or BBS (this was PRE-Internet boom).

Probably the easiest $400 I ever made. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gifuTpaTienT

If you can find it, it's not much cheaper now.

I remember from the 486 era that 1mb 30pins memory was $25 per mb. Needless to say, I didn't have a lot of those, only 4. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Barney, sounds like you stumbled onto a bargain. I bought 4 1MB 30pin SIMMS for $30 each.

Every time I get the itch to buy the latest and greatest computer gizmo, I think about all the money I spent on now-obsolete junk. I usually end up putting off the purchase till the prices come down to earth.

The most I've paid was $194.37 for a single DIMM (128MB PC-133 CAS3) from Crucial in Jan. 2000... today the same module is only $33.29.

Heck not too long ago a PC100 128 meg chip hit around $900 Canadian. That's about as high as it got when the prices went back up last time. Now today I saw an ad in the paper for PC133 128 meg ram chips, a mere $45 Canadian. Even that is half of what I paid just over six months ago...

I still have a build sheet for my friend this summer before the school year started...
$399 for 256MB Mushkin Rev2 Shipped
And that was two sticks of 128MB, because one 256MB stick cost more than the two sticks.
Now its $118 shipped.
Almost a 75% drop
We'll see what happens this summer..
Sounds like a good stock option though...stands to gain almost 300% over buying price in less than 3 months if we get a repeat.

Of course, if it doesnt, your going to have a bunch of RAM lying around.

Wow some interesting prices.

Was looking at a flyer that showed up today! And i couldn't belive my eyes.....lol.

A stick of 128 is a mere $48.00 Canadian, 256 $96.00 Canadian,and so on and so on .

And i did a quick look at Price watch man they had some 128's there for what $16.00 Man it's getting nuts for ram right now or what.

Now if the HD prices would fall to the ground wouldn't that be nice.

Anyways guys and gals if your not willing to give me Ram than sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh i will have to post my 150 or so 30 pin simms. By looking at these prices i would think a buck a meg! What yah think fair enough.

And yes there is some 4 meggers in there somewhere,It's an old Beef Jerky Container thats full to the top with the little keychain makers.

PS: Joking unless you want em.........lol.
