Hi,

I have some problems during AVI (DivX) playback with Windows MediaPlayer.
It seems the larger the screensize i choose (by resizing the playback window) the slower the picture is built up. At fullscreen the movie seems more like a photo slide show. It looks like less frames can be displayed when playback-size is bigger.

It could be a DivX problem, but I cleanly installed the latest codecs, and all my other AVI's run fine. So can it be due to outdated graphics drivers? Could it be a DirectX thingy?

Your CPU's a bit on the weaker side for movies. Having said tyhat try running DIvX's through 'The Playa' bundled with the codec, it tends to do a much better job than WMP

I'd rather not install different codec packs, as in the past this led to lots of trouble. I've installed tsunami-pack, which has most codecs tuned to work together.
Is it possible to install "The PLaya" without installing additional codecs?

I always use the codecs in the bundle as they are the proper DivX ones, from divx.com, you may be able to get the playa seperatley from www.divx.com, but the bundle is IMo better than all the half baked codec variations floating about

Yes, I agree.
Though there are lots of halfbaked coded AVI's floatin' around there as well. :) That is why I use those codec packs. Still, the one I was talking about is pretty decent, it plays all my AVI's perfectly, except for that one that don't.

But you think that it is a codec problem, I mean, with what resizing does and all...?

DivX tends to run a little choppy on a PII 400, especially if the movie size is rather big, say 640x360. You can set the quality settings lower so it plays better. In WMP, go to Properties > Advanced > Filters in use. Select DivX Decoder Filter and hit Properties. Here you can adjust the quality settings.

I can't find that setting! I use DirectX 8.1 / WMP 9 on winME...
There's no 'advanced' tab under properties (properties is like file properties here) and under 'options' there's no advanced either, at least, I can't find it. Can't find DivX filters either... :(

Type mplayer2 in Start > Run. This will bring up the older, but leaner, Windows Media Player. Try looking for those properties there.

yes that worked. Well, I found the settings that is, the avi is no better still. (It was already set to minimum quality). I guess it was just coded badly. I think I'm gonna throw it away and rent the movie ;)
