Hi everyone! For the past hours i've been trying to get several files/versions of 3dfx Banshee (Win 98) video drivers that i've found and downloaded from www.video_drivers.com to work. But unfortunately none of the drivers seems to work. Now i'm being forced into using Windows standard driver.

My problem started when my friend wanted to install a game/software on his Win98se/P3/666Mhz/416mb sdram PC, which is powered by a generic 16mb 3dfx voodoo? banshee AGP card. We're not sure whether it says 'voodoo' but i'm sure the card is a 'banshee' model.I've even opened the chasis and looked over the card ; and there were few nos.(like CR 7991100 000331 and A3DB5B2K-16M on a sticker. Do these nos. make any sense?) and little else. Also i've checked the FCC ID no. which came up with a Taiwanese company name.

In my friend's rush to tweak the required resolution which the software asked for i.e. above 800 by 600(why does the software needs this resolution size?is it because the game is not being played/installed in a large monitor/PC environtment? by the way my friend's monitor is 15") , he accidently double-clicked and thus removed the 3dfx driver while in the 'ADD/REMOVE SOFTWARE' applet!

Now without the original driver in hand (lost, we don't know where),we hope someone would be kind and solve our predicament any time soon.Thank you.

Try these:

http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?Centric=22&nLangID=1&sDestURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eamericas%2Ecreative%2E com%2Fsupport%2Ffiles%2Fdownload%2Easp&sRef=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eamericas%2Ecreative%2Ecom% 2Fsupport%2Fwelcome%2Easp%3Fcentric%3D22

Select Video > 3D graphics > Banshee.

BipolarBill:I've done as you've suggested...but attempting to setup the driver caused this error message:"SEVERE: 3D blaster banshee card is not installed. Please insert the boad first before trying to run this setup" Could it be that my video card IS a 'VOODOO BANSHEE'? And not a Banshee model?

BobRich:I'm having problem installing the driver after having unzipped it to a directory as per instructions.Windows still refuses to detect any .inf (is THAT the required file?) file automatically and it reverts to Windows standard VGA driver. What perplexes me more is that after removing Win driver and the PC restarts, Windows says it detect a PCI vga card...but not a AGP? I'm dead sure that the card is inserted in the brown AGP slot? So what's cooking huh?Could it be that the card is reaching its end of the road?If all fails, i'm thinking of buying a second hand card as its replacement. But before hearing from you guys first.

Anyway thanks both of you for your swift replies.

These cards were not very rugged. It could very well be a goner.

Any chance he has a Voodoo 2 or Voodoo 3 card instead of a Banshee? Is there any info on the GPU that you can read?

Hi all! it has been quite a hectic week for me!sorry that i didn't post at all.

Well,i've finally found the right driver from www.voodoofiles.com.There are 2 versions of the Voodoo Banshee driver viz; one is the original from 3dfx but without installer/tool utility and the other from 3rd party tweaked ones.

After installing the latter version;going thru' the installer first but NOT setting up manually the inf. file like i did before...only then my display looks right as before!Unfortunately, Banshee has it's limitation: it can't be set up to 1024 by 786 reolution but only at 800 by 600 res. This left me with no choice but to upgrade to a 64mb generic nvidia gforce mx 2. display card.:)

And thanks again for your help.Keep up the good work and see u all around:t

I am suprised that the card was still working at all. How old is that card 6 - 7 years old?
