Real(ly fascist pigs) Networks at it again:
Just as I installed this takes-too-long-to-install-without-the-****-i-didn't-ask-for-i-just-wanna-play-a-stream-please-stop-asking-me-f*ing-invasive-questions-version-8 of the Real(ly fascist pigs) Player. Out comes this popper-upper that says I should update. Check the details, the update seems to exist of only one 8mb component: Real(ly facist pig)One Player.
Dear Lord, why is there still Real(ly you know who)Media content on the web at all?
And now v8 seems to play less and less bb-streams (probably due to updated codecs on the content-providers part). I know this is the next scam they (these f***heads) are using, trying to lure me into their buggy-spyware-fascist deathtrap. But I will not!
I REFUSE.
I STAND UP TO SAY "NO!" to the content providers! They must know what they are Real(ly..) like!! I mean, web publishers too are getting it seriously up the ***. They must pay bigtime per stream. This makes up 75% of the 6 billion revenue Real(ly facist pigs) Networks makes. The remaining 25% of it is adware/spyware money. Now, dear RealPlayer users, what is that again, going up your ***?? Well, it must me the RealNetworks CEO! (former member of the -guess who- Micro$oft clan...)
Please readers and fellow Real-bashers, stand up and spread the message. Real WILL bend down evntually, so why not speed that process up a bit eh? Mail your content providers to drop Real and go with something else. Anything!
And for the people that feel offended by this post: Well, la-di-da! I warned ya. :D
What the hell is going on?

I think he has the same problem I've been getting, with the real player basic (ie NOT realONE player) now insisting on upgrading to realONE which is 8megs before it will do anything, cancelling the update box causes it not to work.

Real's software has always been quite annoying...it'd be easier to get people to buy the top version if they offered some serious advantages....

Actually I have no problems at all concerning real player. Wanna know how I fixed it ??? When you get to a media link and the install dialogue pops-up for realplayer saying that you need to install realplayer to view the files, simply close that page and surf elsewhere. No Realplayer = No Realproblems.
Seriously though, Realplayer is crapware/spyware and there are plenty of media players out there for free that will be able to play .rm files and not have you have to deal with annoying pop-ups and the like. For on-line streaming music I just pay $4.95 a month to live365. no pop-ups, no commercials, no spam to my e-mail box that I set-up as a spam sandbox to see if people I do business on-line with sell my e-maill addy to others.

I never liked Real Player or Basic or Real Networks.
I wish they would burn in h3ll.
It's nice to see that I'm not alone in this.
I had a good night sleep, but I still feel agitated about my favourite streams becoming inaccesible. I do feel bushmaster has a point, I'm doing pretty much the same these days. Though I also try to mail those sites about how i feel. (Bet they like that).
As for other software playing *.rm streams; doesn't that still run on RealMedia's codecs, and therefore require RealPlayer to be installed (and updated?). BUT: I heard Oracle might be coming out with a reverse engineered version of Real Player!
Anyone has some info on this?
Right. Bye now.
:t
joah please stop using that word we got your point, its offensive and not what we condone here, keep it clean with the ranting in the future.
;) ok no more. promised.

I completely agree, real player is probably the biggest POS ever made. I refuse to put it on my home computer but I do have it on my work computer. I have never been impressed with it. It's funny though, our virus software from time to time will jump up and shut it down...lol!! How appropriate!

I have yet to see any content of any real value to anyone in streaming media. That said, who cares? If you want passive entertainment try the TV.

I agree, real media stinks.
I have sent an email complaining to nfl.com about all of their files being in real media and maybe if we all team together we could affect a have website. I encourage everyone to email NFL.com and ask for an alternative!
LETS ORGANIZE AND GET RID OF REAL WORLD!

I remember Vivo.
I used to hate Quicktime, but seeing that it only nags you once when you open up the player and none when you use the plug it, it is a good player to use when watching the trailers at quicktime.com

Still, nobody heard of a reverse engineered version of RealPlayer?
(FYI) You see, I read this: http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit19990930.html

i had realplayer years ago on another computer and uninstalled it just because it was so ugly and i didn't even know about spyware. recently i installed a version because i really wanted to see the short films of an incredible sculptor who lives near me. so i said well, i'll just set the permission in my firewall and reset the permission as soon as i'm done looking at the films. darned if i didn't immediately start to get pop-ups and messages and found it constantly running in the background, what a POS. do people that offer their film clips in real media get some payment ? what's the advantage to them? even quicktime isn't as bad...

yah, realplayer is horrible, always nagging at you.
I have real one player and to stop the nagging i first tried to uncheck it in msconfig. It kept coming back, so I just deleted realsched.exe, no problems came up, just all the nagging dissapears :) :t
