I manage a samll NT4 network, that STILL uses Workgroup email - instead of Exchange. I was asked to implement a filtering mechanism that will allow for filtering of random and assignable words and phrases in emails. If the word/phrase was detected, the email would need to be copied to an "administrator" folder for tracking. This is being requested due to abuse of email within our organization, and is quite legal since our organization requires a signed relsease and notification that all emails "...can and will be monitored, whether subjectively and random, or directed..."

I know there are software packages out there that can do this (through packet filtering I think) but I have been unable to find any.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I wouldn't worry about the legality, since company email belongs to the company.

Unfortunately, I don't know of anything that would apply to the older Postoffice implementation. You might scan the shareware boards and ask the folks at the computer stores... maybe call a few local computer-solutions companies (they're EVERYWHEWRE) and see if they've heard of anything that can be implemented.

Any chance of talking them into letting you convert to a small POP arrangement? There might be more options with that. Just a thought.

Good luck
