A fiend of mine has an mp3 she asked me to put on her webpage. Well I figured the easiest thing to do is convert that mp3 into a midi file. Does anyone know of a program that will do it right off the bat? Or do I need to convert it to a wav, then to a midi. And if I have to do that, does anyone have any software recomendations?

I think that going from midi-mp3 can be done, but not the other way around.

Gomer,

Don't you mean you can go from mp3 to midi but not from midi to mp3? I know you can't make a midi into a real song. I just want to break down an mp3 into a midi file so I can play it on a webpage.

You said you figured it out, but left me hanging (I'm interested in doing this as well). What did you do?

Thanks.

Sorry MBR http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

From the research I did, I found it is possible to convert a mp3 or a wav to a midi, but it is not something you want to do. Apparently the midi converters are akin to OCR technology. The converter has to do ALOT of guess work about how things should sound and on regular songs it just comes out as mush. So I did some searching on the net and found an midi archive with the song I needed in it. I know it seems a cop-out but it works and thats all I need.
If you are still interetsed in trying it though, the two programs you need are ones called MP32WAV and Sound2mid or WAV2MID all of these can be found through Yahoo just by typing in the name. Good luck.

They have a lot of neat downloads, that are easy to find - (TAKES FAIRLY LONG TIME TO LOAD WITH 56K http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif)
