I powered up a couple of times and kept getting the "vet resident protection" window, but didn't know what it was. Thought it was strange. I uninstalled InoculateIT and downloaded the new version and installed it. Upon restarting the system, I got "vet.dat" and "vetmacro.dat" errors. Also got an error with "Vet Resident Protection v10.2.9.0" error. What happened? Thanks, Jim.

your .dat erorrs are refering to the virus definition files. I also use inoculate and have never incounted your problem. You clould try uninstalled the software and then removing every instance of it from your registry and then re installing, this might work, otherwise if you get no further help from these forums I would contact the software comapany.

I'm like VERT: I've been using InoculateIT for years and never had this problem. I have seen a similar problem on my son's machine because he thought un-install was the same as deleting a program file. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Sounds to me that you used a bogus method of un-installing, like deleting a program file or something similar. Either that or when you were trying to clean out the old autoupdate files you inadvertently deleted Vet98.exe which has the same icon but, I believe is the file that looks or monitors for viruses. The registry is still looking for those files and even with the install of the new version, it may not have replaced those old file versions. I would suggest that you un-install the new version using the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and then re-install the older version and see how it runs. If that fixes the problem then you can do the update which you can run right over top of the old version. Otherwise, you need to un-install InoculateIT and then clean the registry of all instances of it and start over. Or you could do a regisrty restore back to when everything ran right if there haven't been any other major changes in the software. Hope this helps.

I kept getting those "vet resident protection" windows the last couple of days when I booted up, and I couldn't figure out what it was trying to tell me. So I got a fresh copy of InocIT d/l'd and went through add/remove to remove the old version. I then installed the current version(didn't know to just overlay) and it wanted to restart the PC. I let it, and that's when I started getting these "vet" error screens. If there's another way to do it, I didn't know about it.
Update:
Found a workaround and got it successfully OFF my system...and reinstalled. What I did wrong last night during the install was try to do a custom install...meaning I tried to install it to my D drive and it won't work unless it's on the C drive. Didn't know that, but it told me during the install, so I backed up to the previous step....WRONG! It had apparently already wrote some things to the registry when I backed it up. So, next time an application wants to go the C drive...it goes or is not installed. Thanks folks for your help.
