Watch in the PC Steals and deals forum as there are often posts about good deals on them from buy.com. They are available in 15, 20, 30, 45, and 60 gigabyte models. All are 7200 rpm ATA 100. AndreRIO 05-23-2001, 10:52 PM yeah ibm, i hear a lot people talking about ibm harddrives. i recommend ibm also. Mungla 05-24-2001, 06:55 AM Has IBM fixed the problems that they were having with the 45GB versions of the 75GXP? I own a 30GB and 75GB version of the 75GXP and I love them. They are the fastest & quietest IDE HD that I've ever owned. Kuasimodem 05-24-2001, 01:01 PM I'm running two 30Gb Western Digital ATA100 7200rpm drives, and I love them. They actually bench faster in Win2k than the IBMs, but the IBMs are faster in Win98se (go figure). Thud 05-24-2001, 03:37 PM I use a Quantum Fireball Plus AS 30gig, and I really like it. I've always been an IBM fan, but the Plus AS had favorable reviews and I got a good deal on it. Also, if you weren't already aware, you can do some research at: www.storagereview.com (http://www.storagereview.com) Best of luck! ~Edit: Just noticed this was your first post; welcome to Sysopt! [This message has been edited by Thud (edited 05-24-2001).] grieg 05-24-2001, 06:05 PM charmler, I see Maxtor drives fail all the time. At least 1 to 2 a week in the Furtune 500 I work for. And the one I replaced this morning in a Dell GX1 model cost the customer two weeks of work and they were not very happy about Maxtor either. IBM or Western Digital for me! Richard_Cranium72 05-24-2001, 06:37 PM Deskstar 60GXP. Don't let the drives tag name fool you because the 60GXP is superior to its predecessor. http://www.cluboverclocker.com/reviews/drives/ibm_quantum_shootout/ibm_60gxp.htm VERT 05-24-2001, 06:45 PM If you want fast get yourself a pair of seagate cheetah X15 18GB s, these run at 15,000 rpm and have a 4mb cache, you will also need a SCSI card and a bit of dosh.
