Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : How do I disable a site from making itself a homepage

I was just wondering if there is an option on both IE and Netscape that disallowed a site from making itself a homepage or bookmarking itself without my permission(I hate it when this happens!)
I'm guessing that it is under Tools-Internet Options but I can't seem to find it.
Any ideas?

Man, I donno either, but sure would like to see an answer to this myself. I've never had this happen but once. Last week I was following some links from a search engine looking for some specific software. One of the links was a warez site, and when I got there, it opened about 10 browsers so fast I couldn't close them fast enough and finally had to reboot. After rebooting and going back online, one of these sites had now replaced my homepage.
I changed that pronto, but I sure would like to know how to stop that from happening again.
It has to be a script written into the code at the web site, so the cure would need to be in the browser settings. In IE it would be under TOOLS and Internet Options somewhere.

Id like to join this goup, I have had this happen to me once or twice and its soooo annyoing and arrogant for some jerk to make his site set itself as the start-up page, id like to chose that myself.
So if anyone knows what can be done, please share it with us !.

Hi gang,
I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but in Netscape click Edit>Preferences and select Navigator from the tree on the left. Then in the homepage area, enter your desired homepage in the location field. Click OK, and that should do it.
Hope this helps.

techwriter, yes...and in IE you go to control panel/internet options or...from IE click on tools, internet options and enter the homepage.
What we are talking about here is...when sometimes accessing a website, it can change your homepage to whatever script is written into it.
We all have seen web sites that say something like 'click here to make this your homepage'. Well, some sites execute this command automatically, with out asking, or your having to click on anything. I am wondering if it dosn't have something to do with having java enabled in the browser...most of us do I would think.

dont know if this an answer to your question, but, I got tired of my ISPs big page of stuff I dont use. So set it at blank, tools/options/general. address. click blank. now when I go to explorer, get a blank page, with no waiting to load. by the way you can put just about anything there.
---------------------------------------- after rereading your post, this wont help as you are getting it from a link, I guess, however, some might find this info helpfull

I think you can prevent some of these “intrusions” from happening in IE by increasing the level of security. In IE, under tools\\Internet Options select the Security Tab, then click on the Custom “Earth Globe”. You can disable Java and Active X Scripts or at least modify the ability for them to run without permission. My network guru buddies here at work say that the down side to deactivating these features is that some web sites can’t be viewed as they depend on these protocols for activating certain features of the site. I know that Netscape has a similar capability but I’ve not used it so long, I’m no longer remember how to activate its security features.
