My monitor puts out alot of heat. I decided to place a small fan on top of it.
My question is would it be better to place it so that is blowing into the monitor or sucking air out of it?

Well if you want to do this and the fan will be on top I would have it suck out.

The fan will cause distortion on the monitor screen. Anything that has magnetic properties must be shielded when used near a monitor. Speakers, fans etc.

To answer your question, Suck out the air.
To add constructive thoughts;
What gec said is true. I have a fan that cant even be on in the same room without causing distortion.
Although I have seen Fans made that mount on the monitor. Guess it depends on the fan.

I have made more than 1 monitor fan by using cloths drier plastic duct hose with 4" fan so the fan is away from the monitor. Plastic tie straps worked well to connect the duct to the top of the monitor. Pulled the air out. Simple and it works will when your in very hot area like A shop.
P.S. It also work well for your CP when it is in A tight area with bad air flow. As in or under A desk.

Try a 12 volt DC fan. DC voltage fans (motors) don't generate the rise and fall of magnetic fields that AC motors do. May work, and I think I'll try one myself. I think I have seen a high end monitor somewhere (in and office?..can't remember) that had a factory installed fan in the rear.

I used to have a monitor that would 'overheat' and start to **** on you if you had it on for too long..
I would put a fan on top of it and just have it blow cold air into it.. it helped a lot but was kind of noisy at times http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I have had experience with some fans causing distortion to the monitor, but this fan didn't... the monitor ran as if there wasn't even a fan close to it..

Well I put the small 4 inch fan on top a couple hours ago and now its cool to the touch. I just need to make some sort of on/off switch.
