I saw these links and thought they would be useful to some of us DOS-challenged types (me) so if they can help me, they probably will help some of you.

Cool, I have not used DOS for much of anything other than re-installing Windoze lately, I still knew most of them, and i do have a book, but I like the way these are leayed out.

Bob-NB ~ Did I find these links from you? If so, then thanks, they're great! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

GB ~ a good basic tutorial, thanks for adding it!

Sorry socalgal, didn't mean to get possessive. Few of us have any "original" knowledge when it comes to Dos, or any other subject for that matter...just what we learn working on systems, and what we learn from others. You may have seen my post to savatage over at www.hostclub.net, but none the less, the information is useful and should be spread to all. Thanks for the post on the subject. Here's one from BBA at that site that is also very useful ..."Also, for help on all format switches, just type 'FORMAT /?'"

Bob-NB ~ possessive?? no way. All this stuff is meant to be shared like you said. When I find something that I think is neat, I try to give credit to where I found it. But I find so much sometimes I just lose track!

BTW - The best info I ever got from BBA (which he told us about AFTER I reformatted, lol) was this, I still have the link bookmarked (and the printout in my Doomed file).

Thanks again Bob! And I'll check out the other post too.

Thanks socalgal. I saw the post you linked from BBA and I too immediately put in my HD file for further reference. I've already used the winold technique he shared on several of my "freebie" relatives computers to avoid the reload hassle everytime they choose to add something, or change something. I also had one of them buy the new program called Go Back by wildfile. It is a tremendous program to simply go back in time to when you didn't have a mistake (example after loading a new driver or program that crashes your system) It was one of the finalists in PCWeek-Best of COMDEX. It retails for $69.95 but you can get it for around $50.00 at Best Buy. You can download a beta version that expires 9-18-99 or in 10 days from download at: http://www.goback.com/

I personaly didn't forget, I'm learning because I'm new to PCs. And I don't believe that next Windows won't be DOS based.
It just doesn't seem logic to me.
