I'm sure this has probably been discussed numerous times before but is it illegal to back up your legit copies in order to keep the originals in pristine condition??

BPB, could you (or anyone for that matter) tell me what is illegal and whats not.

Is it legal to copy DVD's to HDD

Or to make copies for backup purposes

If there is a legal way could someone please explain it to me (briefly)

Legally, you can make back-up copies of disks...Most of the time. You would have to read that fine print on each disk to make sure. As long as the copies are for yourself, you wont have any real legal problems. When you start giving copies away to your friends and putting them on Kazaa, you've got problems. At least legally. I could care less and wont rat on you if you do.;)

I did it again. I misread BPB No it aint post to believe that copying aint illegal. Sorry:x

Is it legal to copy DVD to HDD in order to preserve the origionals?

Asking how to make a copy usually deteriorates into somebody coming along and posting warez links which is illegal here at sysopt since it promotes piracy. So it becomes difficult to talk about without somebody blowing it.

What you do in your own home is your business, the less we know the better.
