I have finally decided to dump my 56k modem. I have given up on waiting for Cable or ADSL to arrive so my best, and only choice, is ISDN-128k. I am going to order it off BT. I know the installation charge and monthly cost, but what i don't know is if this covers the ISP cost, as one friend mentioned that this was seperate. If this is true, will it cost extra to connect at 128k or not?

Back when I worked for Swbell ISP, yes they did have separate ISP charge. Not unlike DSL, although a lot of phone companies have merged their DSL line and ISP charges into one flat fee. ISDN is run on a digital network, requires a special line, and is much more expensive. Traditionally, each plan (telco one AND the ISP) will charge on a per-minute basis. When you go over so many minutes (or hours), you are charged on both the telco and ISP sides.
Of course this may have changed in the last 16 months or so. Heres hoping for you that they have moved to a flat billing format http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

one thing you might want to think about is using shotgun modems. which is linking two modems together (Multilink). and if you have good phone lines and get full 56k, then it will combine to 112k. this may be cheaper than ISDN but i am not sure. good modems to do this i found out is the Diamond Max SupraExpress 56 external modem with shotgun technology. Do some research on different things. Have you checked maybe if you have wireless internet in your area? (satellite)

Yeah I can recieve satelite. Why do u ask. What i really wanted was a straight forward yes/no if it is extra cost for ISP access.
Also I have just heard that cable is up and comming and developing new technology and will be around faster than ADSL and BETTER. Is that true, i know my uncle in London has something like 700k up / 250k down?????

On a cable modem that is! He is quite close to his local exchange.
