Looking for a site to learn how to burn "for backup" Dreamcast games. Recently I got a scratch on my NFL2K1 game and rendered it useless. My son tilted the game on it's side to put it away while it was still on causing the disk to keep spinning and eventually tear a scratch into the disk. Is it possible to back-up console games?

Unfortunetly you cannot backup original dreamcast games.

The reason is that the discs used by Sega for the dreamcast console are not your everyday standard cd-rom.

In fact they are refered to as GD-ROMS because they have a gigabyte capacity. Because these discs comprise of both low and high density areas they cannot be read ( the data cannot be extracted ) using a standard cd-rw device. You will be able to see what I'm refering to by reading this article from cdrinfo.com

I think you'll find the majority of ppl who are burning dreamcast games are burning ripped versions they have downloaded off the net.

There appear to be certain groups that ( I assume ) have the hardware necessary to extract the data from these discs. Though I'm unaware as to what exactly that hardware is. But I guess if someone can do it then I guess it must be possible.

Good luck.

Just follow the whole idea behind legally downloading copywrited mp3's. If you own it, you can download it. Download the ripped version and burn it. Viola, instant back up (good especially if your CD is already scratched).

Its very Possible, but it requires alot of hex editing, and that is as pain in itself. Plus adding a ip_bin.boot file to make it self loading. I tryed a couple of times, but i;ll leave the full ripping to the cracking groups (echolonm,kalisto).......

I agree, if you own it, download it and play it. Put the orginial up.

Ripped version's can be downloaded off the net? Wonder if I can get NFL2k1 so I can start playing again. That was a good game! Spending 40+ dollars again for it though really would suck!
