Hi I installed dx9 and the 3.2 cats on my radeon 8500, lost some 3dmark2002 points but no big deal everything seemed to work ok, or so I thought. Now I can't put my resolution in games or on the desktop past 1024/768 or my monitor shuts off. I play most of my games at 1280/1024. Is there some way to fix this?

Is it, perhaps, something to do with the refresh rates? Most older screens just can't see the video signal if its over a certain Hz.
I've no experience with radeon cards, but the geforce drivers have a manual refresh rate setting that allows you to set the rates for all resolutions and colour depths.
Setting them all to 75 or 85 may be the solution.

Win2k pro and an Acana Advance 17s 17inch monitor. Before I installeed dx9 and the 3.2cats it could do 1280/1024. It sucks because most of my older games play fantastic at this resolution. Some newer games I play at 1024/768, but most at the higher rez.

I found the problem, it does have to do with the refresh rate. my monitor only supports 60hz at 1280x1024. But I run my desktop at 1024x768/85hz. I wonder why the games that I run at higher rez before worked and not now. Most games don't let you change the refresh rate as well as the rez. But somehow they did it before and not now. So I guess I have to change my desktop to 60hz every time I want to play a game at a higher rez, or is there some way to make it change automatic?

I got it .It was a tab on advanced video options to manually put in the refresh rates for different rez. I stupid sorry. Thanks zybch, You just saved me cursing a whole lot for something as simple as it was.
