centering the web page

Hello,

I have developed a web page using microsoft word. I do not really know how to use the other development tools, so that is why I used word. Okay, I made my page on my home box, which has a 17 monitor. but, when I use my laptop with a 12 inch display, it is obious that I developed it with a big monitor, becuase I can only view a quarter of the page. My question is, is there any way that I can center my web page so that no matter the size of the monitor used, it will still look the same?

I don't know how to do that in Word, but if you use MS Frontpage (or other WYSIWYG editor), you'll only have to select the object and click on the Centered Align button. It's quite easy to do this in HTML actually, you'll only have to add a <p align="center"> tag or use <center> (tough it's been deprecated). CSS allow even better alignment solutions. You can get detailed info right here (http://www.w3schools.com). If you don't manage it by yourself, post the html file as a txt on this thread and I'll (or someone else) do it for you.

Yeah i would recomment using front page or dreaweaver ... but yah center it like centering text... but select the whole page playa:):t

word is the worst possible HTML editor - it keeps putting Span **** in.....change to FP Express or Netscape Composer or Aracnophilla immediatly - they are all free anyway.

I agree with DocEvil on this one, nothing is worse than word. Well ok Front Page is but that is just assumed.

If you do not have an editor Aracnophilla is good , just head out to download.com t get it. Notepad works good too.:)

Try this for centering, only thing yyou need to change is the width.

Hey, you could even do that table as a percentage of the screen, like

<table width="50%" align="center">,

if you wanted the table size take up the same proportions regardless of screen resolution. Otherwise the table will be smaller at high resolutions and bigger at low ones.

I have used aracnophilla on all my web pages.

I does do an excellent job.
It will help you thru it and easy to understand.

Well, Frontpage is not a WYSIWYG editor, because what you
see is NOT what you get when it comes to the actual code.
Is it just me that have tried the "famous" program, made
a couple of colums, maybe inserted a picture, and then saved
it, and brought the code up for a quick view? A code, that if you
wrote it by hand, would cover the upper left part of a
A4 sheet but in frontpage is generated to a medium sized book?

Well, my advice as always is to actually learn HTML from scratch,
or at least use dreamweaver. Its the least ****ty wysiwyg editors
out there. (If you want a real editor, use 1stpage 2000.)

Your problem with the size of the windows is a common problem
when you havent adjusted the content of the site, with the
viewer itself. You need to give the explorer some "hints" of how
it should present the content to the public.
My suggestion is:

<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="90%">
<tr>
<td valign="TOP" align="LEFT" width="100">

...put your webpage here...




</td>
</tr>
</table>

This makes a small edge around the site like a "bufferzone".

You can also have some fun with Iframes, but that requires
some knowledge about html itself.

Frontpage has a very bad rep, but it isn't that bad if you control it. I mean if you can use HTML and edit the bits it puts in as extras (not really that much) you end up with good HTML.
