I connect to the net using a 56k Fax modem and would like to know how to use this as a fax not just a modem that is can I use this to send and recieve fax's
I'm in the middle of trying to find a job and think that this would be a great thing to be able to,I have a computer (obviously)but do not have a fax machine.the number of people that have asked for things to be faxed is amazing.
I also live in Australia I don't know if that makes a difference.
Thanks for your help.

All you need is a program to allow your modem to work as a fax. You should be able to find a free program at www.shareware.com (http://www.shareware.com) I use one that came with my modem.

Haggis,
Many modems come with fax software, often used to be Winfax Lite (sic), that worked quit well, have you checked the software that came with your modem?
I prefer Mightyfax (http://www.rkssoftware.com) $20, it works well and is easy to use.

I haven't verified this but I found it somewhere, some time ago.
Microsoft Fax

Just buy a new Windows 98 system? Can’t figure out where Microsoft Fax is located?

1.Insert your Windows 98 installation CD.
2.Navigate to the FOLDER: Tools/OldWin95/Message/Us
3.Run awfax.exe to install Microsoft Fax.

Note: According to Microsoft, this utility "requires a Full MAPI Client in order to work, such as: Microsoft
Exchange, Windows Messaging, Microsoft Exchange Server Client or Outlook [the full version, not Express]."

Windows Messaging is available on the Windows 98 installation CD, too.

1.Insert the Windows 98 CD
2.Navigate to the FOLDER: Tools/OldWin95/Message/Us
3.run wmw.exe.

Note: Read wmw-fax.txt, in the same folder, for more information on Microsoft Fax and Windows Messaging.

Also you might try Bitware, it is a program that for many years came with almost all new modems.

Thank you every one I have downloaded Mighty fax and now have to install a second phone line (cost $190.00) at home or install a RD7 line (cost $4.00p/m) to my existing phone acc.
I now have a dedicated phone line for fax and computer use.
thanks once more.
