can I bypass scanregistry at startup?

after typing in msconfig I nocticed that scanregistry autostarts, can I just disable it. recommended or no? It just seems to take up extra ram and time at startup.

It will only take up time.. because the process ends when finished.

anyone correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't this "protect" you by making a backup of the win registry?

That way, if you make a mistake when adding or removing key(s) from your registry, you can load, or revert back to the copy before the (bad) changes. If this is true, seems to me you wouoldn't want to circumvent it.

But that's just my .02 worth
