With all the times I've been blasted on-line, I would like to add a small slave HD to run Internet Explorer.

Will I have registry errors doing this ?

I remember a while back someone commenting on registry problems with some programs put on a slave Hard Drive.

This is important info as some professional contacts are counting on my input, SUCKERS http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Thoughts ?

IE is pretty much integrated into Windows..I'm not sure if I see any benefit from putting IE on a slave. Maybe try Opera..it will be OK on the smaller drive.

The benefit I hope for is keeping things like the Chinese overwriting viri from wiping ALL data on my Drive.

One customer called me for a service call to a Non-Booting Compuke

No reg/fix reg/restore would boot it.

A trip to the house and subsequent removal of the HD and placed into one here to read the important Tax information revealed a BIG UH-OH.

All of the HD was gibberish, very little English remained.

Major windows folders were Missing.

Needless to say, his taxes were ESTIMATED that year, and he runs an Auto business..

Big Time UH-OH

I can see that for sure..but..because of the integration..you are working at a disadvantage. Maybe do what I do..and change the c:\windows dir to something else..I have windows installed in a dir completely different than c:\windows..did that on install..virii are programmed to look for the default dir..move it and you avoid most viruses/hacks. If this isn't feasible..think about a net runner disconnected from the network..

You can store the data (e-mail favorites and so forth0 on any drive you wont to. I have mine set to put it on the D; drive so when I have to reinstall windowes and resetup IE i can set it to use the dir on the D: drive.

although if the virii is "smart" it will still attack %WINDIR% :/

I actually got lucky and got hit by a stupid virus once, it was looking for the "windows" folder but I was on NT http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry I didn't explain that I plan to use IE Eradicator to fully remove Internet Explorer intergration from my C: drive.

Then use a totally seperate HD for IE usage only, I can rename the windows folder if it will help..

I use two identical drives, not because of internet attacks, but because now and then I cause my own train wreck!

It's not too difficult to get in the habit of cloning the primary drive on a regular basis. It also prompts me to defrag and do other houskeeping .

I leave the backup connected because I'm lazy, but it could just as well be completely unhooked until used.
