I think Norton Ghost is in order here for backing up your system.
It works great.

GOOD LUCK!!;)

No, no, no, you see the drive is fully operational in the original config but I am upgrading most parts (mobo etc, ) and so the "HAL get thrown of its spindle" The original system is no longer...Most of the parts I've listed in the first post are new...

Well you see, all of my important files were on that computer
(I will never trustfailing ECS motherboards again)...

I need those files!

You can always install windows to a new directory and then move your files in.

You can also do an upgrade reinstall from within Windows.

Oh - and please stop putting in digs at ECS. I just had an Epox 8RDA+ (yes - the much beloved nForce2 version) utterly fail and cost me hours of t-shooting. Will I start waving the Epox sux flag? No. It was a bad sample.

Time to grow up.

No no no, you don't get it. I don't hate ECS. What I meant was that this board was failing already and I ad no good alternatives at the time.

Nice setup. That motherboard is pretty sweet. Will that be a Tbred XP2000?

What heatsink?

YOu see, I realized what your question was heading towards (overclocking?)....

You know me :D

Even with the retail heatsink, I betcha could get up to 2.1 ghz. Even if you don't chose to OC, make sure to set it to 166 fsb and a 10x multiplier, to take advantage of your motherboard and ram. :)

I know one shouldn't trust a failing anything and I didn't but that was all I had at the moment...

The problem with the board was the bulging capacitors problem which most of us have encountered...To say the least, the capacitors eventually blew their caps ( literally)...

Bu the problem now is that I cannot lose these files ( prgms I have written, mp3s, movies, software i payed an arm and a leg for, amongst other things...

What are the stock settings?

166x10 = 1660 Mhz

Looks like a decent basic system though I don't trust either VIA chipsets or combo RAM designs.

I recently built a similar low-end system for a friend on an ASUS A7N266-VM/LAN/AA mobo (nForce 220-D chipset) and that seems very nice.

This exact chipset is actually very nice....it worked with no problems.. I have used this same model in three other computers and no problems have occurred....And also, there hasn't been a RAM issue. It has worked flawlessly.... Just don't put in both kinds of RAm or your system won't boot ( as a safety measure )

I do not consider this system basic...I do not consider this system low-end at all either...this is some where near the middle and will even be greater when my new RAM comes in ( to make a total of 768 MB)....nForce hasn't proven itself to me yet....

Yes I guess without enough remnants it would be impossible. A moment of silence then for the dead one.
