I have an Intel 1.53Ghz chip running Win XP Pro. I run BootVis to test the startup times. I am a stickler for keeping time under 20 secs. My reading before last was about 18 secs, but then I installed a n HPNA network. The startup time junped to 95 secs. Is there anything I can do to trim it down again? BootVis has reported that the trouble lies in the Login stage. I have attached the .jpg version of the BootVis analysis.

Try manually setting your IP address. Your system is most likely trying to locate a DHCP server and get the info automatically. If you set the IP, you will loose the DHCP time delay.

Ok thanks for the advice.... but one thing. I'm not sure how to set an IP manually... well I know where in windows to do it.. but what parameters do I have to follow?

Figured it out-- I had set four or five network drives to be mapped when I logged on. They were causing the delay, especially if the computer I was mapping them from was turned off. I diabled all of the drives and my boot time dropped to about 16 secs, better than before!

Thanks
