I have narrowed down my problem with a soundblaster 512 card. I took it to the computer shop & using my machine with their mouse(not sure if it was usb or ps/2), keyboard, & monitor it worked fine. However when I hook it up to my monitor, mouse & keyboard my computer locks up. Which one of these 3 devices would have the most to do with it locking up? I use a usb logitech trackman mouse. I'd appreciate any info. BTW all drivers are the most recent available. I have an asus a7v133 mobo, 850 thunderbird, rage fury pro agp card, gateway monitor & el cheapo ancient keyboard.

If your mouse has an option to do it, try connecting it to the PS2 port instead of the USB.

It could also be the el cheapo ancient keyboard too, try a different keyboard and see if that makes a diff.

Well I changed to the usb keyboard & the serial mouse & it's still locking up on me. Does anyone know if Phillips Edge series sound cards have issues with Asus mobo's?

Mikehof:

My answer included switching to the USB devices, which you tried. Did you try switching PCI slots? These things can be fickle!

I have not used either Phillips Edge series sound cards or Asus mobo's, so I cannot comment but perhaps their FAQs/tech support can help you... Have you checked their Websites?

Good luck!

I've used the Rythmic Edge with the A7V before without any problems to note. Just be sure to disable "QXpander for CD's" within the Philip's Control Panel if you are using digital audio extraction for your CD-ROM. When left enabled with DAE, this can cause a serious performance degredation in Win9x.

To the problem at hand, are the lockups at boot or within Windows. If in Win, then have you updated your chipset drivers to the latest version? Here is a link to the download:

You will also need to install the latest USB filter driver to provide better support for some legacy USB devices. Here is the link:

Good Luck,

Also, I have read the latest VIA 4in1 drivers, i.e., 31, are not the best, and the version prior is better or more stable. Use your own judgement, obviously. I downloaded the 31's recently with no problems, then I saw the aforementioned "buggy" comment on a different forum.

Good luck.

The problems are in windows & any games I try to play. I have gotten it to work now but I cannot boot up with the sound card enabled. I have to enable it after booting otherwise it locks up. Any guesses on what this problem is?
