I work for an ISP and we just started offerong DSL. They gave me a FREE account to let me test it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif we had a few bugs in it but we got those worked out. The first day I had it I maxxed it out at 2385Kb. Needless to say the next day it was turned down to MUCH MUCH slower http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif now its maxxed at 1.4Mb with burst set to 750Kb and normal 384Kb

56 k users I know how u feel. I finally killed the faithfull but slow 56k modem. I like to download large files so it became a joke..I pulled down a Divix movie of 700MB and it took a bloody week http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Anyways I since got a Cable connection running a 512kb. I usually get transfer rater of about 65k. I download now on adverage about 1 to 3gigs of information a day http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Although a few days ago I pulled down 10gig in just under 3 days. Think I have a problem with acceptable usage policy

38,666 bps on a 56K 3com hardware modem. I can't wait untill cable or dsl comes to my rescue. I gave up on downloading large files a long time ago.

I've been a half mile from being able to get DSL for about 6 months..

I consider my self lucky. I live 2 buildings away from our main telco building so I max out and more on my adsl line.
ADSL = 800.2kbs {and faster at times}
and 52.9kbs on my back up 56k modem. cheers

ADSL is new here so, I thought lets take ADSL
but wait, here come's the nice part. I signed myself up for ADSL and a week later I got a letter, it said: Withing two weeks you can enjoy the pleasures of fast surfing. And another week later I got another letter, and it said: We'are sorry to report that your neighbourhood is not ready yet for ADSL, end of June it will be available.

I cried my *** off, that wasn't fun

I had the opposite situation, i could have singed up with cable at 300ats/month. But the area i live in is "not ready".
So i have ADSL at 800ats/month, luckily my parents are paying it, otherwise i would be crying my @$$ off.

Well, my ISP adveritises 512k, but I almost never get a speed test that low.

Just checked it a bit ago and it was at 784kbps.

I usually get download speeds of around 65-70kbps, not too shabby...

btw, regarding my first pic (near the top of this thread), those two test are from www.DSLReports.com (http://www.DSLReports.com) and MSN.

C/net reports me 232.5 kbps!
but i´am realy getting it when downloading.
not bad,+ i can upgrade to FibreCable
if needed for servers in the future.
