Just as a topic of discussion, I was wondering...for instance if a mother board supported 256 MB of ram and there was only 2 DIMM slots. Would 2 128 MB DIMMS be quicker or more efficient than 1 256 MB DIMM? I don't have such a setup but was thinking that using 2 slots, each having less circuitry than one slot having to utilize much more circuitry would equal better efficiency. Wrong or right?

It doesn't really matter you will not see any difference between 2x128 or 1x256.

Agreed, there's no noticeable performance difference between 2@128MB and 1@256MB. There's a question in the Crucial.com FAQ that deals with this issue if you want to look it up.

If anyone is interested, I sent a query to Crucial. They sent back a message stating that using one 256 MB of memory is slightly faster than using 2 128 MB sticks. You could have fooled me, but sometimes something sticks in your head and it bugs you until you know for sure. Now I'm bugged because I have 2 128s when I could have bought a single 256 cheaper. And life goes on.

But is the performance difference worth mentioning ?, I wouldnt think so.

Regardless of any slight performance difference, if one mod goes bad, you still have 128MB left to run with. Practical consideration while this is being discussed.
