Most shareware applications expire after their limited time has run out, so I really don't see any problem with just keeping them til they quit on their own. Other types of shareware come 'watered down', in as much as they do not have all of the major components with it. Many of these will last forever, and I do not have a problem using them if they do what I want or need. The application was put out for evaluation, fully realizing not everybody will go for the retail or complete version...so, yes...by all means, use it til your cup runneth over http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif.

Now, about Paint Shop Pro. I D/L ver 5.0 over two years ago...guess what...it just quit with a notice that my 30 day trial period had expired...ROFLMAO.

i would probably just re download it if it stopped working

I must say... if you REALLY use it (and have a credit card) then pay for it.

I bought my license for Winzip.

Most of the shareware stuff is really cheap and since you get a free trial you know if its worth the $$$.

There is some software I must admit that I haven't paid for. Usually its software I only use when I initially setup a computer but that happens often. so I guess I should anti up the coin.

As far as I'm concerned this is a question of logic. If the piece of software in question is something that you would like to see around in the future, you'd best support it. It is far more than tempting to just keep using it since it may work far past the trial period, if not indefinatly. It is even more tempting to find a crack, patch, or serial since they will give you the security of a long term solution. These days you may not even need that due to how often new releases are put out. Morality aside, if you don't pay for it, the company loses revenue. If I don't pay for it, and you don't pay for it, just think of who else may not be paying for it. Lost revenue=less money to invest in developing the next version. If it sucks, you won't use it anyhow, if it's awsome, why not pay your dues and see what the company can do with your money to make a great product better.

you have a good point about revenue, but when i got this version, there was already a newer one out and so i didnt really think it mattered if i got some the outdated one

Well, here is one more thought about using shareware and not paying for the retail or complete version. When I first got into computers, I had very little software. I bought a 386 with Win 3.0 on it. I used this computer for ham radio digital radio transmissions, much like email today on the net.

I bought software for this, some was shareware, and I paid the going price. Some I liked, and some I didn't. The ppl that wrote the software always indicated some setup and usage help when needed. This was good, because I barely new how to turn a computer on, and needed a lot of help. I never got any. I would write, ham radio email call...whatever, and nothing.

Finally, I decided if this was how buying shareware was gonna be, I would just be a user.

I still buy shareware, if its good, and does what I really want. I do have shareware on my machine that should be deleted, because I have only used it maybe 5 times in two or three years. So far as winzip, I now use a program called Power Desk Explorer, the same thing as Windows Explorer, but will do so much more than Windows Explorer that its not even funny. I can zip, unzip, acrchive...ect with PD...

Here is what is written in the readme file:

1. INTRODUCTION TO POWERDESK 4 PRO
