Who makes your favorite AMD motherboard? And why?

I have fallen in love with MSI...:p

Well as for why?, I have built several systems based on MSI mobos and they are all very successful and have brought back repeat costumers.

MSI:

1. Lower prices w/complete package
2. Easy setup
3. Decent OCing
4. Dead reliable
5. That wonderful cherry-red PCB! :r

I like Biostar. I've also got an Epox but the Biostar was cheaper and is more stable and overclocks better.

Epox 8rda+.. because it looks nice :p

oh yeah and it overclocks like a demon too

VAROOOOOOOOOOOM :x

Second to that my old Abit Kt7a raid served me well despite the limitations of no Athlon XP or DDRAM support, and the typical buginess that comes from VIA chipsets :(

got one im messing with now, an older one. a spax-m. its for a k62-450. havent messed with to many new ones. last one was a shuttle AI61 for Athlon classic 800.

would vote but one im using now is an IWILL KK400 and you dont have iwill in your choices. havent had any trouble with this board (besides accidently shorting it to case):D

The majority of my personal boards are MSI w/ a couple of Soyo's tossed into the mix. My first and recent AMD board is an MSI with the N2 chipset and so far so good. It seems just as reliable as any of the MSI Intel boards I have. Plus it unlocks the multi on my XP2600+ 333Mhz.
Not that "I" would OC, no not me. LOL.

Of the two AMD boards (K7's) I own I like the Abit KG-7 Raid board better than my Gigabyte GA-7ZX.

MSI all the way for me:) Any motherboard that can take the abuse that I give mine deserves a top rating.

I like Gigabyte for their quality, reliability and support. Have built many systems for clients and for myself and have never had to send back an RMA to Gigabyte! Never been disappointed by their mobos.

Also would recommend the following mobos: Abit, ASUS, EPOX, MSI, Shuttle and Tyan. Have used all of these brands without any issues as far as getting it to work!:)

I have to echo BipolarBill (and apparently many others), and say MSI. Maybe not the fastest, maybe not the most feature filled, but certainly the best combo of everything including price. I really am enjoying my KT 3 Ultra2's and look forward to picking up one of their Nforce 2 boards once I can justify replacing a K7T Turbo that is running great with an XP1700. But it is still fast enough and runs anything I have thrown at it, although a little slower than the KT3 Ultra2's.

ASUS for my main system:

Great features / extras. Fast adn stable.

Epox tend to OC a bit better though.

Some Gigabyte and most MSI / Soyo boards are pretty good, but tend to stick with ASUS whenever possible.

That can happen to any brand board. The more popular the more made the more likely defective ones will show. ISnt a BUG though or flakey deseign just a manufac. screw up. It happens. Now VIA they make bugs-leave them be. Burn you by moving onto a new board deseign all together and NEVER fixing anything. Ive had them so I know. Thats a BUG and thats chipset and deseign flaw. Thats what PO me. Not a bad board here and there as it happens.:)

VIA have started adressing many of their long standing chipset problems in the new beta service packs up for dl at viaarena, works quite well too

ABit are the best for me! I have ad a lot of probelms with ASUS and their RMAs....

Abit is fast, stable, reliable and have one of the best RMAs and support!

IMO

Whelp, Epox just dropped off my radar screen. The 8RDA+ I bought gave me fits and then died smelling of electrolyte.

In short:

1. Initial setup good. Two 512MB PC2700 DIMMs

2. Loaded defaults.

3. Tried to boot old OS - unknown BSOD.

4. Tried again - FastFat.SYS BSOD

5. Tried again - Win32.SYS BSOD

6. Safe Mode BSODs.

7. Tried formatting and reinstalling to C: - freeze. CHKDSK BSODed!

8. Took out one DIMM and Ghosted - CRC errors during Ghost. Updated BIOS.

9. Took out the other DIMM - Siren alarm and faulty memory code.

10. Both DIMMs work fine in two other systems.

11. Replaced second DIMM and smelled electrolyte - POST code display dead. Motherboard dead.

Looks like a memory controller fault or a bad cap. Why does this stuff always happen on a Friday? The Crystal Orb must go back with the mobo because it's Epoxied on. :p

Will swap for an MSI. Grrr....

I too have been partial to Abit, my KG-7 raid was my first real overclocking board. I liked the ECS board the K7S5A I believe but the first one had issues even with an Antec 350 watt psu. The second one I built for someone else was sweet... Go figure...:t
