I have had this problem ever since I built my computer. My 3dmark2k1 score is aroung 1500 highest I got was 1701 overclocked.I already had a thread about this couple months ago.
Athlon xp1800@1610
256ddr333 samsung
geforce2mx400(AGP)
wd 80 gig 7200
Biostar M7VIP-I think this might be the problem.I have already reinstalled os,installed 4n1 drivers, using 23.11 detenators. Would a bios flash maybe do it?
I'm running windows 98se and have all programs closded when benchmarking.I dont really care about the bench but if it is twice as high then in games I can turn up everything else.

Can you use the 41.09 drivers? BTW, mxs are not know for perfomrance. I would suggest a video card upgrade.
I tried the 41's and got about the same score. For my birthday in may I'm getting a new monitor hopefully 19" and a new vid card.

Peek,
It must be your mobo 'cause I can get 2400-2500 on 3dmark2k1 with everything at stock speeds - with some o/c'ing I can get up to 200-300 higher.
My rig (don't laugh):
P4-1.5 willamette
256PC133
geforce2mx400AGP
maxtor 40 gig 5400rpm
GA-8IDML mobo
using 40.72 detonator drivers.
Not sure how you could fix your setup though.

Or could be some driver issue somewhere. Hope the 40.72 driver works for ya like BryanM suggested.

What OS are you using??? I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your video card drivers. Sure, the GF2MX cards are some pretty tame cards, and your score sounds about right to me, but then, I never owned an MX card. Make sure that FSAA is not accidentally enabled for the benchmark, in the bench options AND in the driver window. That will absolutly smudge an MX score for sure. A BIOS update is always good, IMO. Although you won't get much in the way of performance enhancement, but sometimes they include little features that can be set to optimize performance (RAM timings, RAM interleave and so on). There are a few bios tweaks for graphics performance, but how much are you gonna be able to milk a GF2MX? Which 4in1 did you install? Maybe you should just overclock the bejeesus outta the card until you get a new one? Try THIS (http://www.tweak3d.net/) site for starters.
the 4n1's I'm using are the newest ones off of guru3d.com I'm running windows 98se.I'm using rivatuner to overclock to do I use the tab that says detanator xp detected or 64 bit nv11 with 64 megs of memory?

Everyone is throwing out 40.00s as a possible remedy. Those drivers are optimized for, guess. Hell yeah GForce 4s. You are on the right track with 23.11. I personally use 29.42 for my GeForce 2 mx400. I think you will see a boost lemme know how right I am!!
Those 29.42 gave me a 200-300 point increase.

Exactly. Those new detonators perform better with the new cards.
I have an Elsa GF 2MX 400 card and I get about 2700 3dmarks with a T-Bird 1.2 and 512 Ram. I'm running 32.83 (or something like that.!) I have never tried new detonators after this one! ;)

256 MB DDR
ASUS GF2MX 400 64MB DDR
20GB Samsung 5400RPM HDD

Got the other rig's MX400 up to 267 core/200 mem. Don't think that's a common OC. It has a NB Heatsink with slow-spinning 50mm fan, and is only slightly warm on the backside. With stock cooling, it was cooking, but still got up to 250/190.
Running 40-series detonators. Decent framerates.
Do you think its my video card or mobo?Cause I can get a refurb off of newegg.com for like $30.Like a decent epox or a geforce4 mx440.Dont say save my money and get a ti4200 or 9500 cause it will take me till may to get the money.:( And my b-day is in may so...

You could get something like a GF2 Ti for around there... that's MUCH better than the GF2MX, although, if you ask me, you should just bite the bullet and stay with what you have and start saving hardcore, that means picking up pennies on the street and doing chores for yer neighbooors for chump-change, and by May you should have a Benny Franklin saved up, that should serve you pretty well, right? Dude, don't even toy with the idea of sacrificing with any MX card (apologies to current MX owners). That is the kind of stuff I still do and I make the big-bucks now ;)
I was using the mx440 as an example not going to get that but do you think its my mobo or videocard?
