i have bought a motherboard with built-in (sound pro) sound chip on it. the sound i get has no loudness and contains elements which do not have anything in common with the original, eventhough the speakers are ok and drivers are installed.is it possible that the other elements in my pc corrupt the sound?

My Amptron MB's onboard sound was the same way. Too bad, the surround sound effect is cool. Put my old Creative sound card in and everything's fine. Amptron said W98 was required for the sound to operate properly, but I wonder ....
i have read your reply and i want to ask you if that sound chip works well in windows 98, because you did not seem to know that.

Dime, what you're likely experiencing is interference from the different components in your computer. I've noticed it much more often from motherboards with integrated sound. It does happen with a sound card, but not near as often because it's further away from the main bus and CPU which emit a high amount of RF noise.

Yeah, what's up with this motherboard "consolidation?" I've been browsing through hardware sites, and I see more and more motherboards with sound and video and God knows what else right on the board.
Can anyone really recommend this type of board? Maybe since I'm a proponent of "component" systems ( like a seperate tuner, amp, tape deck, equalizer,cd etc. for my stereo), I just have a hard time biting on these all-in wun boards.
Am I wrong?
