Thanks for any replys. :t Sterling_Aug 03-09-2003, 07:46 AM The only important thing is to buy one that works. I have used about every brand made and they are all good. Flatlands 03-09-2003, 04:32 PM Thanks Sterling I have always used Teac and have had good luck but thought there mite be one thats better than another with the way technology is. Have a good one :t G 03-09-2003, 06:44 PM The Teac FDD (FD-235) is quite and smooth. The eject button is smooth too. G Flatlands 03-09-2003, 07:11 PM Thanks G Thats the one I ordered. :D Flatlands mcool61 03-09-2003, 10:51 PM Get one off of a junker. Maybe your town has a cleanup day or go to a shop & get an old one for a couple bucks. I still use the one out of my 486. 3rd pc it's been in. BipolarBill 03-10-2003, 12:22 AM I hear that the Alps floppy overclocks like a big dog! :p G 03-10-2003, 05:59 AM You won’t be disappointed Flatlands. Bill you kill me man :D trouble 03-10-2003, 06:26 AM Never try to overclock your floppy. Its dangerous and not for the inexperienced. :p Sterling_Aug 03-10-2003, 12:59 PM I mounted a Thermalright SK6+ on my floppy drive and now it holds 3.0 GB per floppy.... BipolarBill 03-10-2003, 01:24 PM http://membres.lycos.fr/limagerie/happy.gif gjimene2 03-10-2003, 01:31 PM I got mine water cooled :p Flatlands 03-10-2003, 05:43 PM  3.0Gig WoW does it spin at 5400 or 7200? LOL :p sm8000 03-10-2003, 07:14 PM Buy one of those IBM 2.88MB floppiy drives. Can still find 'em on eBay. See if you can find 2.88MB disks. Also rare: internal LS-240's, and 120's somewhat. Flatlands 03-10-2003, 07:32 PM Hi sm8000 I have a zip drive and cd burner for big files but just need the floppy for the old stuff. :D leprechaun_40 03-10-2003, 10:43 PM I got a LS-120 drive outa a dead compaq and a whole box of new LS-120 discs for it too:eek: Giblet Plus! 03-11-2003, 12:04 AM Originally posted by gjimene2 I got mine water cooled :p I got a pelt on mine. Really brings down the access times. :p causticVapor 03-11-2003, 12:16 AM I've got two vapochill units on mine. Allows it to spin at 15K and also hold more than a DVD.... which is no comparison to the CDs in an LN2 circuit.... custom evaporator with the CPU.... laser seek times in picoseconds.... LOL this gets gay after a while.... stix_kua 03-11-2003, 12:45 AM overclock a floppy:eek:   something I have never done...I kinda want to try that...:p crucibelle 03-11-2003, 01:23 AM I just bought a Mitsumi floppy from newegg and it was DOA. But, newegg being the wonderful business that they are - shipped me out another one today, and told me not to worry about shipping the other one back. :) PS - "clocking" your floppy is BAD! Shame on you guys! :D -jeanna mcool61 03-11-2003, 01:34 AM Originally posted by crucibelle I just bought a Mitsumi floppy from newegg and it was DOA. PS - "clocking" your floppy is BAD! Shame on you guys! :D -jeanna Somebody clocked it before you got it.:D trouble 03-11-2003, 03:19 AM well I went against my own advice and OC'd the sucker. Never try to overclock your floppy. Its dangerous and not for the inexperienced. Works like a rocket but there is one major problem that has developed. When I eject a disk it flies out at a million MPH(at least).I've lost eleventy disks which are now embedded in the concrete wall on the other side of the room. Can anyone tell me how to tweak the drive a little better so that this doesnt keep happening. cheers Ps Bill you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself for starting this entire episode. As a Moderator of exceptional standing in this community I would have thought that you would have known better. ahzl 03-11-2003, 03:29 AM Hah, no seriously, how WOULD you guys overclock a floppy?! If you can store 3 GB of data on one disk, please - be my guest. I'd persoanllly be suprised if you could. And why the cooling for one? Their such cheap pieces of **** you can easily get another for $15 or less (CDN)! trouble 03-11-2003, 03:36 AM ahzl, you obviously dont know a lot about puters do you.Of course you can OC a floppy drive. You can get them running so fast that the heat generated will literally melt them unless some advanced cooling tecnique is employed. A search on google will turn up lots of info on the subject and books on it are available at any good bookshop. cheers crossedup 03-11-2003, 07:40 AM got an internal and an external ls-120, neither one worth spit in my opinion. they always freeze up just when your pulling off something important, until then no trouble. they dont seem to handle large files well at all :t TARP2 03-11-2003, 10:49 AM I just Duct tape 2 - 1.44 discs together and send them into the drive. But I only get 2.88. I'm gonna try that Oc stuff.:t mcool61 03-11-2003, 01:29 PM Originally posted by ahzl Hah, no seriously, how WOULD you guys overclock a floppy?! Their such cheap pieces of **** you can easily get another for $15 or less (CDN)! You have to turn the hamster wheel on its side & attach it to the flopply drive shaft. Maybe threaten the hamster with one of those ice water enemas I saw in another post. That should get the little bugger humping. Remember safety first. Stand clear when ejecting floppies cause they will come out a gazillion miles an hour. In order to increase capassity use cdroms instead. Just shrink them down in the toaster. wala 700meg. floppy. trouble 03-11-2003, 08:05 PM You have to turn the hamster wheel on its side & attach it to the flopply drive shaft. And here I was thinking that James Willor?? was dead and buried :D crucibelle 03-11-2003, 09:05 PM Originally posted by mcool61 Somebody clocked it before you got it.:D hmmm... the fedex guy, maybe? lol :D leprechaun_40 03-12-2003, 12:42 AM So,, if I stuff a Jaz disc in my O/Ced floppy,, can I multiply my capacity by a factor of 2gigs?? That would make it,, lesse,, mmm,, a 200gig floppy???:x Hey,, maybe I'll just O/C my Zip, Then I can have a 10terabyte Zip??? x51out 03-12-2003, 12:57 AM And to think that the Floppy Drive is going the way of dinosaurs, companies like DELL don't even include them in their standard system config anymore... if you still want one, I think you have to pay extra for one. Pushing the CD-R and RW as floppy replacement, hmmm. Swordfish 03-17-2003, 08:59 AM hmm...ok i looked around...so can anybody tell me how to unlock the multipliers of the floppy drive.....please please please let me also try that thing storing 3gig ...oh boy this could be great...i can save a lot of rebates and stuff and save for opteron maybe.;) (instead of spending on a dVDrw)... now that was funny:p :D .... mcool61 03-17-2003, 11:13 AM [QUOTE]Originally posted by Swordfish [B]hmm...ok i looked around...so can anybody tell me how to [b]unlock the multipliers of the floppy drive QUOTE] with the key of course.:p PacNW CE 03-17-2003, 01:22 PM Originally posted by Flatlands Well my faithfull floppy went belly up. Are there any sugestions on what brand to buy? Thanks for any replys. :t None. Buy a flash memory cigar drive. That, or get a usb flash card reader, and know that you'll be able to use the memory card from your digital camera to transfer files in a pinch. My digital camera came with a 32mb flash card (pretty usless with a 5.0MP camera). I use it to transfer smaller files to and from computers. For large files, I pull out the 256mb card from the camera and use it instead. After all, it's all zeros and ones. :D ichorid 03-29-2003, 10:25 AM in theory u can oc a floppy... upping the fsb affects anything connected to the mobo, so transfers to and from floppy can go faster!! not that it would change anything, because the drive cant pull it off the disk fast enought anyway... _Mystical_Night 03-30-2003, 11:10 PM I use Mitsumi they seem to be pretty good :) , and usually come in many different colors too ricksimm 03-31-2003, 03:13 PM If your floppy is starting to malfunction, just hold the little door open and pop a Viagra in it. Works every time! x51out 03-31-2003, 03:44 PM The Floppy drive is still hanging on. Still has the bios-flash and spread sheet usage left. Not much else though. The CD-RW is so much more elegant in a way. I find the actual floppy disk to be unreliable, although some of my ancient floppies still have uncorrupted data on them, too many new ones have nixed the data way too soon. Unreliable at best. I'm not a big fan of the floppy anymore. SysOpt.com
