RandomGoon 05-18-2001, 01:09 AM I've just installed my CD-RW and was wondering which brands of media were best and which to avoid. The Plus side to that is that is usally what officemax sells by the hundred for 25 bucks. Donkey 05-18-2001, 01:39 AM I swear by verbatim metal azo blue CDrs not had a single problem with them that wasn't caused by myself being stupid! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif NDC 05-18-2001, 03:12 AM Well, I'm using a Plextor 8/4/32 and never had any problems with any CDR or CDRW medias other than Memorex... Even the cheapies work great! RayH 05-18-2001, 05:08 AM I use whatever's on sale...even complete rebate stuff. I've never had one that doesn't work. Give the inexpensive stuff a try, it may save you money. It's not like purchasing audio/videotape. Digital tracks are 0s and 1s. Some devices, for whatever reason, seem to be sensitive to certain types of discs. But really, I've never had any problem either recording to them or playing back on them on any device I've used. linux_guru 05-18-2001, 06:03 AM Some people swear by this brand or that brand. I buy whatever's cheap or on sale. Haven't made a coaster yet. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif suzuki1 05-18-2001, 06:17 AM I 2nd donkey's responce! verbatim metal azo blue CDrs, Never had a problem with them. Wiruz 05-18-2001, 06:59 AM I don't know if you've got "Mr. Platinum" in the states or whereever you are, but steer clear of those - after a few months the freflecting layer starts peeling off the top of the disc - I'll never use them again. Right now i'm using "BestMedia" discs (80 minz/700 MB) - very cheap - a spindle with 25 cost me 100 danish kroner - some 12.5 $. (probably not very cheap compared to your prices, but normally i pay a dollar per 700 MB Disc :-( ) ...Just don't pay for the brand - if you handle them correctly, there really shouldn't be no difference. ~Wiruz, The Digital Hippie BobyJo 05-18-2001, 07:07 AM I have a TeacCDRW512EB and have no problems with any brand of CD-R, CD-RW. Any will work fine, you can buy a stack of 100 CD-R for less than $20.00 after rebate. Or at least last month you could. The prices are going up about as much as gasoline. Mitchell 05-18-2001, 08:01 AM Yamaha16/10/40 here. I also use the Yamaha 16X74M CDR with great success. While at Fry's, I picked up a spindle ot "Hotan" 16X80M for dirt cheap. So far no probs with the cheap stuff. Kuasimodem 05-18-2001, 08:14 AM I use PNY Black Diamond CDR's after making coasters with Imation discs. For CDRW discs I use Memorex Platinums. Acer CDRW4432A drive. vintron 05-18-2001, 08:30 AM i've burned TONS of cd's and i would say there is not much difference in a "brand-name". That's because all the big names order their cds from basically the same (or a selection of a few) bulk manufacturers. The only thing they actually do is put their label on it. Right now i am using imation because i got it for real cheap (100cd 16x 80minute spindle for $29) RandomGoon 05-18-2001, 01:35 PM So it seems the general consensus is go with what makes you feel good. Alrighty then, time to hit Costco/Sam's club and jump into the pool http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Thanks everyone, 'Goon SysOpt.com
