 :(

Hi I have baught one of the latest games
Splinter Cell and I keep on getting a general protection fault error
when ever I have started the game.

I have tried uninstalling and installing both options you get.
Upgraded just about everything I think???

I was wondering if anyone here knew of anyway of fixing it.
I have tried the splinter cell support forums without any luck,
and the support technicians or what ever you want to call them
now days are **** as well as I have not got any answer from them.

So I am kinda hoping that you "Smart Guys :D " might be able
to help me out?

thanks

I just tried updating that and installing it without
any luck. Could it be that I am using a burnt copy of Windows 98?
Should I say that?

I doubt thats the issue, have you updated DX and installed that service pack you linked to? VIA chips are known to have a hulluva lot of problems with the UT2k3 engine, that pack is the beta step toward fixing them, works on my machines.

Also disable Fastwrites in the BIOS see if that helps

GO into the BIOS (del/F! at system POST) and in integrated peripherals page if there is a fastwrites option set it to disabled, might be an idea to do the same to side band adressing, if neither works, set em both back to enabled

I have a 4-in-1 driver for my VIA chipset motherboard (Abit) and it nearly 'destroyed' my computer. I had to format my harddisk just to get my computer back to normal. My cousin told me that my motherboard can't accept the 4-in1 driver.

From there onwards, I dun dare to install the motherboard driver. Tat's why I can't play NOLF 2 and Generals. I can't even play extreme FPS games. I think the games require more powerful motherboards and processors.

The last time I played a FPS game was Soldier of Fortune 2 and I completed it several times. After that, I sticked to Counter-Strike but I completed Age of Mythology once. Strange!! How come I can play some of the games and not everyone of them?
