I've set up an FTP server, which i would like to be able to access via Internet Explorer (ftp://) - but there is login and password required of course.

I can't remember how to do that - isn't it something like:

ftp://login@password:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx?

Or am i totally wrong?

BTW: do i need to setup server programs to access my files "Windows-Style" (double click to run, no download needed like... mp3z?) via the interenet?, or will FTP Suffice?

I'm pretty new to this "Lan over the internet stuff" so if anybody got some URL's for some help and tricks, it would be appreciated!

Thanx.

Close Wirus http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

You should be able to do it in IE or Netscape with no problems.
its ftp:\\username:password@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Hope that helps.

you can also go to the file menu in IE once you have logged into your ftp and there will be an new option called "login as" , this option only appears when the ftp protocol is typed into the address bar, and to answer your question, 21 is the default FPT port number.

here is a good site concerning networking and LANs .... http://www.helmig.com
