HDD Cooler: http://www.tcwo.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=585&sid=1gi2Ty0GRE@ACSr

System (Case) Cooler: http://www.tcwo.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=583&sid=1gi2Ty0GRE@ACSr

Please let me know ASAP, as I have an extra $15 or so to spend on my order.

Any extra case cooling can only help. Modern high speed cpu's and hard drives get hot, and generate extra heat in the case.

I would say that if you already have, or will have a good front intake fan, and a good rear exaust fan, the hard drive cooler would be a good bet. Case cooling is generally better than hard drive cooling, because if the case is not adaquately cooled, heat will only build up inside. Front and rear fans should be high volume cfm, maybe 30 to 40 cfm...you can't really get too much air movement.

If you will be overclocking at all...a good tower with extra case cooling is probably in your future. I have just recieved an Antec SOHO SX 1030 tower. This tower has two front intake fans (one mounted into the front of the hard drive bay) and two rear exaust fans.

There are other towers just as good...I happened up on this one onsale, and free shipping...$100 bucks, but it is one nice case.

Ive used a similar one like the system cooler, it can be taken apart and flipped to reverse the side they suck from, pretty quiet easy way to get airflow out, and an ok way to suck heat off a hot card, ive only had one brand and it moved ALOT less air then claimed, I see this one says 42cfm, I doubt it works that well...

I should have gone into more detail in my original post about my setup. Thanks for the extra info...

Using a mid-tower case that's open on one side because I found, using Asus Probe, that the temperature is cooler with the side of the case completely open. Because of this, I did away with the rear blow-out fan. Instead, I use that fan to blow directly on my Voodoo3 3000 video card from the side because the heatsink on it just doesn't cut it - I get video lockups all the time without this fan there. I have a regular 4-inch fan blowing in from the front though.

So I don't think the System Cooler I linked to above would help much in an open-case setup right? The HDD cooler should still help?

What's your opinion on open-cases compared to the temperature of a closed-case scenario? I've read a lot about closed-cases being better for airflow, but my real-world comparison didn't follow suit.

Any info is appreciated.

hmm... that's the same fan as I linked to correct? If it blows directly on the heatsink of my video card, I can surely use it... if it sucks air, I'll stick with my current side-fan.

42CFM... anyone know how fast a 80MM (4-in) case fan spins in comparison?

These are worthless gadgets, I have tried them both. there may be some value in trying to cool a scsi drive as they get hotter than most, and it is nice to cool video cards, but case fans and video cards with hs/fans are worth the trouble, these are not, and the cfm stats are laughable, if not fraudulant

These fans suck(you know what I mean) they don't move anything near 42cfm but they do a great job cooling a video card one advantage is that it moves the heat from your vid card right out of the case.

rh71:

I use a slot fan directly under my GeForce2 GTS 32DDR vidcard and I think it helps exhaust hot air fairly effectively at a low price. I am not real keen on HD cooler fans, however. I think cool air moving into the box from the front bottom and out through a high rear exhaust fan (hot air rises) is a logical set up.
