Monitor Speed is Wrong

I have two differnt computers, but both have NEC monitors. Upon initial boot, both computers display a warning that the refresh rate is wrong. I have set the refresh rate in the o/s to several different settings including optimal with no result. One computer has an ATI card and the other has a GeForce 200. I know I am missing something, but just cannot put my finger on it. Appreciate your help.

Try restoring default settings in the monitor setups.

I've seen this before. How old are these monitors?
