Firts time owner of a Nvidia base card so I may use some help on this one. I just got a Ti 4200 64 with 4 ns, it came at 250/500.
After reading some post I decided to push it a little and I can get the core up to 315 but the memory will only go up to 560; more than that ,even 1 Mhz and I start to get "garbage" on the screen.
This is very strange since I read that the 4 ns' chips are rated at 555 or something like that.
I even put some ram cooling (on both sides) and cut a hole in the case and put a fan blowing directly on this card but no use. any sugestions??

I have to mention that is runing on a BX board agp X2 without any "bios" tweaks, may be this is why???

No problem with the card. You just hit the cards limit is all.

that is the maxium you can overclock!!!

the 4ns memory runs at 500mhz..

1000/4= 250*2 (ddr) = 500mhz!!
you were able to reach 560mhz so its ok...

Maximum.....Is that so???? Oh well.
I really didn't expect to reach those levels; to me 315 core seams too high (22% increase) and 560 mem too little (only 12%)
Somehow and after doing some reading my impression was that the core will "give" before the mem.
Thanks.

Try decresing the core speed down to 275, then try pushing the mem higher. May I ask what company makes your card? If you can run it at 275/550, that would be Ti4400 speed and a decent oc. I've ran my Ti4200 at default and oc'ed speeds (290/580) and don't notice any frame increase, so I just leave it at stock.

So far the best O/C'r for that card seems to be the albatron.

its the 3.6ns chips that are rated for 555.

Lower your core speed to say 275 and then see if the memory can go higher, also try putting in a case fan to blow cool air across the ram banks

Thanks for the response, but how a lower core will alloud me to increase the memory speed?? What is the rellation???

Increasing the core also brings about artifacts, the strain on the core in addition to the memory overclocking may be whats causing the artifacts, not just the memory overclokcink alone. I always keep the core lower (as its the one more likely to burn anyways) and ramp the memory up as high as poss

Ditto. Default speeds for cards going back a few years has been: CORE speed = max.1/2 MEMORY speed DDR. Example: core 250/mem 500(or more). It's true. You can check everywhere. There must be some fundamental rule for that. And by adhering to it, at say CORE 300, you'd be in line with that to set the MEMORY to at least 600, right? So, you'd really HAVE TO set the Core lower and the Memory higher. And I'll tell you that it works out right. Try it. Run 3Dmark2001 at default and then run it with ONLY the core raised. You will go nowhere fast. Reversed, raise ONLY the memory and not the core. Result: improvement.
