This email has been making the rounds.

This works for me!!!!!!!...........................

Join the resistance!!!!

We are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Do you want
gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united
action.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day"
campaign that was going around last April or May!

The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't
continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It ! was more ofan
inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever
thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Please read it and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is
super cheap. It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded.

Now that ! the oil companies and the OPEC nat ions have conditioned us to
think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50-$1.75, we need
to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace....not the sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need
to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come
down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their
gas!
And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But
we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a
price war.
************************************************** **************
Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON"T purchase ANY gasoline from the two
biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are
not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If
they reduce their prices, the o! ther companies will have to follow suit.
************************************************** *****************
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally million! s of Exxon
and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, at this point...
keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions
of people!!

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it
to
at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least
ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message
reaches
the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION
consumers!

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends
each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one
level
further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all
you have to do is send this to 10 people and DON"T purchase ANY
gasoline from EXXON and MOBIL.That's all.

! If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have
to do is send this to 10 people.... well, let's face it, you just aren't
a
mathematician. But I am... so trust me on this one.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten
more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't
think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we
can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this
message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND
KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK

This all sounds great and fine, but from my understanding exxon and mobil asides from selling gas retail, are also one of the biggest importers of petroleum products and actually wholesale to the smaller gas retailers. So couldnt they just raise wholesale prices to the smaller co.'s and in turn raise pump prices even higher ?. Resistance is futile, we are the powers that be.

The largest profits for a gas station is not the gasoline. It's almost a loss leader. The real money is in everything else. Cigarettes, soda pop, engine oil, windshield washer fluid, that type of thing. We all need petrol, but if you want the station owners to complain to the oil companies stop buying anything but gas from them. Of course that doesn't stop you from being selective of which brand.
Boycott Mountain Dew.

Nice idea, but I doubt it will work. Americans love cars and convenience...I doubt if many will take the time to avoid certain gas companies or do much to reduce their consumption. Three bucks a gallon would suck, but that's still cheaper than alot of countries. Have fun filling up those SUVs everyone! :t

imagine a city or a whole state carpooling taing the light-rail or the bus to work and not buy any gas for three days.

imagine what will happen to Exxon :)

Just got back from filling the tank, didn't use exxon or mobil, but it cost me $1.83 a Gallon !!!! over $27 bucks to fill my tank. My car gets good mileage (25 city 36 hwy) but still , that's bullsh*t!!!!! These oil barrons are not better than the industrial robber barrons of the 1800's. They find any excuse to screw us so they can get richer (sounds like Bill Gates too).I'm all for not buying gas when I can. I only burn about a tank a month anyhow. I only work a few blocks from home, so if the weathers nice, I walk. Lets show these hiway robbers we won't take it any more,,

sad thing is when i started college 3 1/2 years ago, gas was 89 cents a gallon everywhere around where i'm from (the middle of illinois), and that was every year. then...y2k...instant price rockets, universally. prices haven't gone back down, only up. interestingly enough, my parents and several other people i know have been keeping track of the gas mileage vs gas price ratio -- there is an inverse relationship here. as prices go up, mpg goes down invaribly. back when gas was 89 cents a gallon, i got 33-35mpg, now when it's 1.75 i get 23-25mpg. as prices fluctuate, so does our mpg. about a year ago prices shot down to **only** 1.33 a gallon, and i got 30mpg on that tank. shortly thereafter, prices shot up, and our mpg went down again. this is without changing driving habits, patterns, or routes. hmmm.... we actually bought a gallon of gas at our local gas station and put it in a glass cider bottle, and it looked murky. we let it set for a couple of days, and it turns out that they'd micronized water so that it was suspended in the gas (which settled out after a couple of days of not moving it). there's not enough to kill the engine, but enough to act as a cheap filler, and enough to **** out the gas mileage (cause water doesn't burn too awfully well). hmmm again..... my truck used to love 87 and run great on it, but now it has to have at least 89 or it knocks so bad it's very sorry. and no, it's not running improperly, i keep it tuned and take very good care of it...

But how would they suspend that water/petrol mixture in the petrol station's tanks? unless it's stored under immense pressure it would seperate, and if it is stored under that much pressure, that makes that fuel stop is a ticking bomb.

The only other way to dispense that mix would be to apply the water to the fuel as it's being pumped, which would imply local knowledge and participation. I smell a boycott coming on.

In 1970, driving across country, I ran into a gas war in Kansas. The price for a gallon was 15.9 ¢.

In 1969 I worked at a Hess station in Maryland. The price for a gallon was 28.9¢. We had to clean the front and back windows, the mirrors the headlights, check the oil, transmission, and refill the washer fluid.

One night a guy came into the station around 1 in the morning and asked for 63¢ worth of gas. I did everything but the "under the hood" stuff. My boss was sitting on top of the hill in his car watching with binoculars. The guy buying the gas was a setup. He drove down and was about to fire me for not giving "full" service. Here I am 16 and scared. After much pleading and explaining that the reason why I didn't check was because the guy only had 63¢ he graciously allowed me to keep my $1.65 @ hour job.

sniff sniff

I'll always be in his debt. Thank you Massah!
